Show Jumping World Championship
The World Show Jumping Championships, or the show jumping competition at the FEI World Equestrian Games, was started in 1953, with individual competition. In 1978 Team competitions began, and men and women began competing against one another. From 1990, show jumping was brought together along with the other equestrian disciplines into the World Equestrian Games (WEG). They are held every four years. The 2022 edition will be held in Herning, Denmark. 2022 FEI World Championships
The 2022 ECCO FEI World Championships were held in Herning, Denmark. It was the ninth edition of the Games, which are held every four years and run by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI). The FEI Show Jumping World Cup is an annual international competition among the world’s best show jumping horses and riders. The series, created in 1978, today comprises 14 leagues on all continents. The best riders from 132 preliminary competitions qualify for the final. The FEI World Cup was thought up by a Swiss journalist and show jumping enthusiast, Max E. Ammann. From its inception until 1999 both the final and qualifiers were sponsored by Volvo. From 1999 to 2013, the series has been sponsored by Rolex. Longines has been the title sponsor of the series from October 2013. Approximately 45 riders qualify from 13 leagues around the world. Usually there are 20 riders from Europe, 15 from the United States, 5 from Canada and 5 from elsewhere in the world. The 2022 FEI World Cup Finals for both dressage and show jumping are scheduled to be held April 6-10, 2022 in Leipzig, Germany. The event is set to be held in the Leipzig Trade Fair and will mark the conclusion of the 2021-22 Dressage and Show jumping World Cup Seasons. Background Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 FEI World Cup Finals in Las Vegas got cancelled. It was the first time that the FEI World Cup Finals got cancelled since their inclusion in 1978 for show jumping, and 1985 for dressage. The World Cup Finals were set to return the following year in Gothenburg, Sweden, however they also got cancelled on short notice, following the EHV-1 outbreak in Europe. As with the previous season, the COVID-19 pandemic affected the 2021-22 World Cup Seasons in both dressage and jumping, with several qualifying events getting cancelled during the season. The equestrian events at the 2012 Olympic Games in London were held between 28 July and 9 August at Greenwich Park. Medals were awarded in three disciplines for both individual and team competitions. Great Britain was the most successful nation, topping the medal table with three golds and five medals in total.
