Jenko Award
The Jenko Award ( sl, Jenkova nagrada) is a literary award in Slovenia awarded each year for the best poetry collection in Slovene published in the previous two years. It has been bestowed since 1986 by the Slovene Writers' Association. Slovenia ( ; sl, Slovenija ), officially the Republic of Slovenia (Slovene: , abbr.: ''RS''), is a country in Central Europe. Josip Osti
Josip Osti (19 March 1945 – 26 June 2021) was a Bosnian and Slovenian poet, prose writer and essayist, literary critic, anthologist and translator. Biography Osti was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Sarajevo. He was the editor of the culture part of the student magazine ''Naši dani'', editor at the publishing house ''Veselin Masleša'', Secretary of the Literature Society of the City of Sarajevo and Director of the international literary festival Sarajevo Days of Poetry, Secretary of the Writers’ Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, President of the Association of Literary Translators of Bosnia and Herzegovina and proof-reader/corrector of the publishing house ''Svijetlost''. Alojz Ihan
Alojz Ihan (born 23 July 1961) is a doctor, specialist in medical microbiology and immunology from Slovenia. Beside his medical profession he is also an acclaimed poet, writer, essayist and editor. Ihan was born in Ljubljana in 1961 and studied at the Medical Faculty at the University of Ljubljana. He works at the University's Institute for Microbiology and Immunology. Iztok Osojnik
Iztok Osojnik (born 27 July 1951) is a Slovene poet and essayist. Between 1997 and 2004 he was the director of the Vilenica International Literary Festival organized by the Slovene Writers' Association. Osojnik was born in Ljubljana in 1951. He studied comparative literature at the University of Ljubljana under the supervision of the literary historian and philosopher Dušan Pirjevec. In his college years he collaborated with the poet Jure Detela and sociologist Iztok Saksida in publishing their ''Podrealistični manifest'' (The Sub-Realist Manifesto) in 1979 and later participated in the avantgarde group ''Pisarna Aleph'' (Aleph Office). Between 1980 and 1982 he continued his graduate studies at Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan. Peter Semolič (born 1 February 1967) is a Slovene poet and translator. He has published numerous collections of poetry and his poems have been translated into English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Polish, Hungarian, Finnish, Serbian, Bulgarian and Macedonian. Dane Zajc
Dane Zajc () (26 October 1929 – 20 October 2005) was a Slovenian poet and playwright. He served as president of the Slovene Writers' Association (1991–1995), and was awarded the prestigious Prešeren Award for lifetime achievement (1981). Together with Edvard Kocbek and Gregor Strniša, he is considered as the most important Slovenian poet of the second half of the 20th century. Life He was born as Danijel Zajc in the Upper Carniolan village of Zgornja Javoršica near Moravče, in a relatively wealthy peasant family. He was traumatized by the experience of World War II. Nova Revija (publishing Company)
Nova revija ( Slovene for ''New Review'' or ''New Journal'') is a Slovenian publishing house and cultural institute that developed from the literary journal with the same name. The publishing house ''Nova revija'' was founded in 1990. In the 1990s and 2000s, several other magazines were launched within the ''Nova revija'' consortium, including a magazine for current political analysis ''Ampak'' (since 1999), the journal for legal theory ''Dignitas'', the philosophical journal ''Phainomena'' (since 1992), and the journal for religious studies ''Poligrafi''. Niko Grafenauer
Niko Grafenauer (born 5 December 1940) is a Slovenian poet, essayist, literary historian, editor and translator. He is particularly known as author of popular children literature, and for his active participation in the Slovenian public life, especially in conservative and liberal conservative platforms. He was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia (then part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia), to a poor working-class family. Both his parents died in the first year of his life. He spent his childhood with his older sister in the small town of Velike Lašče. He attended high school in Cerknica. Uroš Zupan
Uroš Zupan (born 25 August 1963) is a Slovene poet and translator. He has published numerous collections of poetry and his poetry has also been translated into German, Polish, Czech, Slovak, English, Serbian and Croatian. Zupan was born in Trbovlje in 1963 and lived there until he went to study Comparative literature and Sociology of culture at the University of Ljubljana.
