Jemison High School is a new public high school in Huntsville, Alabama, United States. It is named for Mae Jemison, a native of nearby Decatur, Alabama who was the first African-American female astronaut. The school is built on the same campus as McNair Junior High School, which is named for the late Ronald McNair, the second African-American astronaut in space, who was killed in the explosion of the space shuttle ''Challenger''. The school contains a magnet program called the College Academy which works alongside The University of Alabama in Huntsville to provide students with college credit throughout high school. Jemison is a city in Chilton County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 2,642. The center of population of Alabama is located outside of Jemison, an area known as Jemison Division. Geography Jemison is located in northern Chilton County at 32°57'31.792" North, 86°44'36.841" West (32.958831, -86.743567). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and , or 0.65%, is water. History Jemison is located at the geological end of the Appalachians and was originally inhabited by the Creek Indians for the springs located in the area. In 1869, R.J.
