Jeffrey Flier
Jeffrey Flier is an American physician, endocrinologist, widely cited scientist, ''Higginson Professor of Medicine and Physiology, and Harvard University Distinguished Service Professor'' at Harvard Medical School. He was the 21st Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Harvard University from 2007 to 2016. Early life and career Flier was born in New York City, and grew up in the Pelham Parkway section of the Bronx. He is the son of Milton R. Flier, a World War II C-47 pilot and businessperson, and Dorothy (Kroll) Flier, who taught junior high school mathematics. He graduated in 1964 from the Bronx High School of Science, and 1968 from the City College of New York. Jesse Roth
Jesse Roth (born August 5, 1934) is an American physician and endocrinologist, currently at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research. He received his BA in 1955 from Columbia University, his MD in 1959 from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis) in 1961, and a fellowship in endocrinology at Bronx Veterans Administration Medical Center in 1963. Beginning with his fellowship work with Solomon Berson and Rosalyn Yalow, Jesse Roth's research career focused on insulin action. His laboratory at the National Institutes of Health elucidated much of what we know of the structure of the insulin receptor and intracellular mechanisms of insulin action. Melanin-concentrating Hormone
Melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH), also known as pro-melanin stimulating hormone (PMCH), is a cyclic 19-amino acid orexigenic hypothalamic peptide originally isolated from the pituitary gland of teleost fish, where it controls skin pigmentation. In mammals it is involved in the regulation of feeding behavior, mood, sleep-wake cycle and energy balance. Neuropeptides are chemical messengers made up of small chains of amino acids that are synthesized and released by neurons.
