Jeff Irwin (politician)
Jeff Irwin (born June 19, 1977) is an American activist, progressive and politician serving as a member of the Michigan Senate. A member of the Democratic Party, he served on the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners from 1999 to 2010, and in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2011 to 2017. From 2019 to 2022, in the Michigan Senate, he represented the 18th Senate district, which encompassed the cities of Ann Arbor, Saline, Ypsilanti, and Milan (portion) and the townships of Ann Arbor, Pittsfield, York, Augusta, Salem, Superior, and Ypsilanti. He replaced Rebekah Warren, who was term limited. Irwin now represents the state senate's 15th district, which encompasses all of Barry County, as well as parts of Allegan, Calhoun, Ionia, Kalamazoo, and Kent counties. Michigan Senate
The Michigan Senate is the upper house of the Michigan Legislature. Along with the Michigan House of Representatives, it composes the state legislature, which has powers, roles and duties defined by Article IV of the Michigan Constitution, adopted in 1963. The primary purpose of the Legislature is to enact new laws and amend or repeal existing laws. The Michigan Senate is composed of 38 members, each elected from a single-member district with a population of between approximately 212,400 to 263,500 residents. Legislative districts are drawn on the basis of population figures, provided by the federal decennial census. Senators' terms begin immediately upon their election. Republicans hold the majority in the State Senate with twenty-two seats; Democrats hold the minority with sixteen seats. Superior Charter Township is a charter township of Washtenaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 13,058 at the 2010 census. Communities * Dixboro is an unincorporated community located within the township at . Dixboro was settled as early as 1825 by John Dix and was platted in 1826 by A. B. Rowe. The name was first recorded in 1828 at a time when the area was still administratively part of Wayne County until Washtenaw County was created in 1829. A post office opened under the name Dixborough, which was named after John Dix, on December 6, 1825. The post office closed on September 25, 1850. The post office was then restored on two separate occasions from July 11, 1861 until January 20, 1863 and again from May 26, 1890 until it ultimately closed on June 15, 1905. Alma Wheeler Smith (born August 6, 1941) is a politician from the U.S. state of Michigan. She was most recently a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the 54th District, which includes the city of Ypsilanti, Augusta Township, Salem Township, Superior Township, and Ypsilanti Township in Washtenaw County, from 2005 to 2010. Mitch Irwin (born July 8, 1952) is a former Democratic Party (United States), Democratic member of the Michigan Senate, serving from 1979 through 1990, and was director of two state executive departments under former Governor of Michigan, Governor Jennifer M. Kent County is located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the county had a population of 657,974, making it the fourth most populous county in Michigan, and the largest outside of the Detroit area. Its county seat is Grand Rapids.
