Jeff Betts
Jeff Betts (born March 8, 1970 in Charles City, Iowa) is an American former soccer forward and coach who spent most of his career playing indoor soccer. He was a three time All Star and the 2000 World Indoor Soccer League Coach of the Year. College Betts began his collegiate soccer career at San Diego State University in 1988. In 1989, he led the team in scoring with 32 points on 10 goals and 12 assists. The 12 assists remains a San Diego single season record. He appears to have taken a year off from school before finishing his collegiate career with two seasons at the University of Portland in 1991 and 1992. He graduated in 1993. Professional In 1993, he signed with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the American Professional Soccer League. He played three games before the Strikers waived him on June 18, 1993. Charles City, Iowa
Charles City is a city in and the county seat of Floyd County, Iowa. Charles City is a significant commercial and transportation center for the area. U.S. Routes 18 and 218, Iowa Highway 14, and the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific railroads serve the city. The population was 7,396 at the time of the 2020 census, a decrease of 5.3%, from 7,812 in 2000. History The Ho-Chunk people, also known as Winnebago, had long occupied this area and had a village along the Cedar River. In 1851 Joseph Kelly, the first-known European-American settler in the area, came here after the Ho-Chunk had been pushed out. He believed that the site was ideal for a town, as it had water from the Cedar River and adjacent timberland to supply building needs. The settlement was first called "Charlestown" after his son. Major Indoor Soccer League (2001–2008)
The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) was the top professional indoor soccer league in the United States. The league was a member of both the United States Soccer Federation and FIFA. The MISL had replaced the NPSL which folded in 2001. According to MISL.net, the league ceased operations as of May 31, 2008. Arizona Thunder
The Arizona Thunder was a professional indoor soccer team based in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1997, the team was a member of the Premier Soccer Alliance. In 1998, the alliance, with some additional teams, reconstituted itself as the World Indoor Soccer League (WISL). The Thunder continued to play in the WISL from 1998 to 2000. The team played in the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Many of the players grew up and played youth soccer in AZ including Randy Soderman, Rick Soderman, Jason Vanacour, Milo Iniguez, Mark Kerlin, Derick Brownell, Kenneth Wright (Thea), Sasha Hunter, Dave Cameron, along with many implants like Milos TomicChris Scotti and the Dunn Brothers.
