Jean-Pierre Bacri
Jean-Pierre Bacri (24 May 1951 – 18 January 2021) was a French actor and screenwriter. He frequently worked in collaboration with Agnès Jaoui. Life and career One of Bacri's earliest film appearances was '' Subway''. He co-wrote with Jaoui ''Smoking/No Smoking'', and co-wrote and starred in ''Un air de famille'', ''On connaît la chanson'', for which he won a César Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 1998, ''The Taste of Others'' and '' Look at Me''. Together, he and Jaoui have won the César Award for Best Writing four times, the Best Screenplay Award at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and the European Film Awards, and the René Clair Award in 2001. He died of cancer in 2021 at the age of 69. ''La Vénus d'Ille'' (, "The Venus of Ille") is a short story by Prosper Mérimée. It was written in 1835 and published in 1837. It tells the story of a statue of Venus that comes to life and kills the son of its owner, whom it believes to be its husband. Plot summary The narrator, an archeologist, is visiting the town of Ille in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. A friend of his recommends him to M. de Peyrehorade, who is familiar with the Roman ruins in the area. ''Smoking/No Smoking'' is a 1993 French comedy film. It was directed by Alain Resnais and written by Agnès Jaoui and Jean-Pierre Bacri, from the play '' Intimate Exchanges'' by Alan Ayckbourn. The film starred Pierre Arditi and Sabine Azéma. It won the César Award for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Writing. Plot "Smoking" and "No Smoking" are two segments of the film which are based on closely connected plays. The original plays covered eight separate stories, which have been pared down to three each for these movies.
