Jean-Paul Diamond (born 9 April 1940) is a politician in the Canadian province of Quebec, who was elected to represent the riding of Maskinongé in the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2008 provincial election. He is a member of the Quebec Liberal Party. Charette, Quebec
Charette () is a municipality of about 1000 people located in Maskinongé Regional County Municipality, in Quebec, Canada. History Charette is named in honour of one of its first settlers, Édouard Charette, originally from Sainte-Ursule, who built a saw mill and flour mill around 1875. In 1910, the post office opened and in 1918, the Municipality of Charette was established when the Parish of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges (formed in 1914) was incorporated. Its railway station identified the place with the English name of Charette's Mills for a period of time. Yvon Picotte
Yvon Picotte (born October 27, 1941 in Louiseville, Quebec) is a politician from Quebec, Canada. He was a five-term Liberal Member of the National Assembly, who represented the electoral district of Maskinongé from 1973 to 1994. He also was in charge of several portfolios in the second cabinet of Premier Robert Bourassa, including tourism and agriculture. From 2002 to 2008, Picotte was a supporter of the Action démocratique du Québec. From 2004 to 2006, he served as President of that party. In May 2006, he made embarrassing comments about PQ Leader André Boisclair. Boisclair had decided not to run in a by-election for the district of Sainte-Marie–Saint-Jacques (in Montreal), the district where he lives and that is well known for its large gay population. Saint-Alexis-des-Monts is a parish municipality in the Mauricie region of the province of Quebec in Canada. It is located in the Laurentian Mountains, having a topography that is characterized by valleys and rounded hills, with an altitude varying between to . There are more than 600 lakes, 400 named and another 200 unnamed minor lakes. The majority (65%) of its territory is part of the Matawin Wildlife Reserve. The town depends on outdoor tourism that increases its seasonal population to between 8000 and 10,000 persons. History The first settlers were originally from Saint-Paulin and established the community on the banks of the Du Loup River, north-west of Saint-Paulin, around 1865. Mauricie () is a traditional and current administrative region of Quebec. La Mauricie National Park is contained within the region, making it a prime tourist location. The region has a land area of 35,860.05 km² (13,845.64 sq mi) and a population of 266,112 residents as of the 2016 Census. Its largest cities are Trois-Rivières and Shawinigan. The word ''Mauricie'' was coined by local priest and historian Albert Tessier and is based on the Saint-Maurice river which runs through the region on a North-South axis. The 2008 Quebec general election was held in the Canada, Canadian Provinces and territories of Canada, province of Quebec on December 8, 2008. The Quebec Liberal Party, under incumbent Premier Jean Charest, was re-elected with a majority government, marking the first time since the 1950s (when the Union Nationale (Quebec), Union Nationale of Maurice Duplessis won four consecutive elections) that a party or leader was elected to a third consecutive mandate, and the first time for the Liberals since the 1930s, when Louis-Alexandre Taschereau was Premier.
