Morvan in 2017. Jean-David Morvan (born 28 November 1969 in Reims, Marne, France) is a French comics author. Morvan studied arts at the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels. Morvan started out as a comics artist, but soon realised that his true strength is storytelling, and so now he is best known as a comics writer. He resides in Reims, France. His main series are ''Spirou et Fantasio'', '' Sir Pyle'' and '' Merlin'', all with José Luis Munuera, and '' Wake'' with Philippe Buchet. He has published more than 230 comics to date. Reims
Reims ( , , ; also spelled Rheims in English) is the most populous city in the French department of Marne, and the 12th most populous city in France. The city lies northeast of Paris on the Vesle river, a tributary of the Aisne. Founded by the Gauls, Reims became a major city in the Roman Empire. Reims later played a prominent ceremonial role in French monarchical history as the traditional site of the coronation of the kings of France. Wake (comics)
''Wake'' (titled ''Sillage'' in the original French) is a science fiction graphic novel series created by Jean-David Morvan and Philippe Buchet. The series has been translated to English and published in the United States by NBM Publishing. The issues are published in a large format (19 cm by 25.4 cm) as soft cover graphic novels. Issues 1 through 3 were published individually. Issues 4/5 and 6/7 were published together as single books. NBM Publishing have stated that they will not be publishing the remainder of the series in English in the United States. ''Wake'' is space opera, exploring social themes about inequalities, corruption and colonisation. Origin The foreword to the art book ''1000 Navïs'' states that the series was conceived at the prompting of publisher Guy Delcourt, who wanted a space opera to add to his catalogue. The Prix Saint-Michel is a series of comic awards presented by the city of Brussels, with a focus on Franco-Belgian comics. They were first awarded in 1971, and although often said to be the oldest European comics awards, they are actually the second oldest comics award in Europe still presented, behind the Adamson Awards. Their history is quite erratic though, with a long pause between 1986 and 2002. Philippe Buchet (born 7 May 1962 in Juniville, Ardennes) is a French comic book artist. First working as a freelance illustrator in Paris and Reims, he finally entered comic book terrain with ''Nomad'', on which he worked with Jean-David Morvan. José Luis Munuera
José Luis Munuera (born 21 April 1972, in Lorca in the region of Murcia, Spain) is a Spanish comics artist. Along with writer Jean-David Morvan, he was in charge of the classic Spirou et Fantasio series from 2004 to 2008. Munuera kept close to the spirit of classic Spirou author Franquin's graphical style, while bringing a touch of manga-inspired modernism. Morvan and Munuera have however used background elements and secondary characters from the whole history of the title, and not just from Franquin's period. Munuera is also the artist on the children's comic series Nävis, a spin-off of Philippe Buchet's science fiction series Wake.
