2MBS Fine Music Sydney (ACMA callsign: 2MBS) is a Sydney music radio station operated by the Music Broadcasting Society of New South Wales Co-Operative Limited. Bernie McGann
Bernard Francis McGann (22 June 1937 – 17 September 2013) was an Australian jazz alto saxophone player. He began his career in the late 1950s and remained active as a performer, composer and recording artist until near the end of his life. McGann won four ARIA Music Awards between 1993 and 2001. McGann led the Bernie McGann Trio and Bernie McGann Quartet through his career. The most well-known lineup of the Trio was McGann (alto sax), John Pochee (drums), Lloyd Swanton (bass), with the addition of Warwick Alder (trumpet) in the quartet. Career Born in Granville, in Sydney's western suburbs, McGann first came to prominence as part of a loose alliance of modern jazz musicians who performed at the ''El Rocco Jazz Cellar'' in Kings Cross, Sydney in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Peter Boothman
Peter Boothman (1943–2012) was an Australian jazz guitarist, composer, and educator. Since he started playing in the late 1960s he worked at most top jazz venues in Sydney including The Basement, Festival of Sydney, Sydney Opera House, Jenny's, The Rocks Push, El Rocco, Wentworth Supper Club, and Horst Liepolt's Music Is an Open Sky concert series. In the mid-1970s he taught jazz improvisation and theory at the Jazz Studies course at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. As a freelance professional musician he has worked at various top venues throughout Australia backing local and international acts, and in the early 1970s he owned and ran Guitar City in partnership with classical guitarist Peter Andrews. Dick Hughes (musician)
Dick Hughes (1931 — 2018) was an Australian jazz pianist, singer and journalist. Hughes earned two ARIA Award nominations for Best Jazz Album, in 1987 for ''The Last Train For Casablanca Leaves Once In A Blue Moon'' and in 2010 alongside his daughter Christa Hughes with ''Twenty First Century Blues''. He also contributed a track (with Dick Hughes' Famous Five) to '' Jazz Live At Soup Plus'' which was nominated for the same award in 1989. Hughes was born in Melbourne in 1931, the only son of Richard Hughes, a journalist, and his wife, May Hughes ''née'' Bennett. He developed an interest in jazz early in life and became president of the Melbourne University Rhythm Club in 1950. In 1952 he relocated to London for three years where he started working as a journalist, working for ABC, Frank Packer, News Limited and Fairfax community newspapers before retiring in 2014.
