Jason De Carteret
Jason De Carteret, born on the British island of Guernsey, is a polar explorer. He took part in the Ice Challenger Expedition and holds (or has held) skiing and vehicle world records for polar exploration. He has worked as a commercial helicopter pilot. Along with two companions in 2011 he drove a modified Toyota Tacoma overland from Patriot Hills to the South Pole, a distance of over in a world record time of less than forty hours – over twenty-nine hours quicker than the record time he had set previously. He has also travelled to both Poles by skiing. Personal life On 11 November 2015 De Carteret married Dr Eva Carneiro. Guernsey
Guernsey (; Guernésiais: ''Guernési''; french: Guernesey) is an island in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy that is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a British Crown Dependency. It is the second largest of the Channel Islands, an island group roughly north of Saint-Malo and west of the Cotentin Peninsula. The jurisdiction consists of ten parishes on the island of Guernsey, three other inhabited islands ( Herm, Jethou and Lihou), and many small islets and rocks. It is not part of the United Kingdom, although defence and some aspects of international relations are managed by the UK. Ice Challenger Expedition
The Ice Challenger Expedition was an expedition to the geographic South Pole. The expedition's six man team used a six-wheel drive vehicle to cover about 1,000 miles. Not to be confused with the ''Ice Challenger'' expedition to traverse the ice floes in the Bering Strait. Expedition details In 2005 a team of six people took part in the Ice Challenger Expedition. Traveling in a specially designed six-wheel drive vehicle, the team completed the journey from the Antarctic coast at Patriot Hills to the geographic South Pole in 69 hours. In doing so they easily beat the previous record of 24 days. They arrived at the South Pole on 12 December 2005. Toyota Tacoma
The Toyota Tacoma is a pickup truck manufactured by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota since 1995. The first-generation Tacoma (model years 1995 through 2004) was classified as a compact pickup. The second generation (model years 2005 through 2015) and third generation (in production since 2015) models are classified as mid-sized pickups. Patriot Hills
Patriot Hills () is a line of rock hills 5 nautical miles (9 km) long, located 3 nautical miles (6 km) east of the north end of Independence Hills in Horseshoe Valley, Heritage Range, Western Antarctica. To the north of Patriot Hills (in their slipstream) there is an approximately 2x8 km large blue ice rink, a snow-free surface that can be used as a landing strip for large aircraft including C130 and Ilyushin Il-76 . History The hills were mapped by United States Geological Survey (USGS) from ground surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1961–66. The name was applied by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) in association with the name Heritage Range. Eva Carneiro
Eva Carneiro (30 September 1973) is a Gibraltarian sports medicine specialist who is best known for serving as the first-team doctor of Chelsea, which she joined in 2009. Educated at the University of Nottingham, the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians in Melbourne and Queen Mary University of London, she worked variously for West Ham United, the Public Health Department, the Olympic Medical Institute, and the England women's football team. Carneiro was employed by Chelsea in 2009, leaving her position under controversial circumstances in September 2015. Todd Carmichael
Todd Carmichael is an American entrepreneur, adventure traveler, philanthropist, television personality, author, inventor, and producer. Carmichael is the CEO and co-founder for Philadelphia-based La Colombe. He is the first American to complete a solo trek across Antarctica to the South Pole, on foot with no assistance, capturing the World Speed Record with a total travel time of 39 days, 7 hours and 49 minutes. Recorded footage of his trek later became an award-winning documentary entitled ''Race to the Bottom of the Earth'' (2010) that was aired on the National Geographic Channel. With his World Record accomplishment, he also raised thousands for one of his numerous philanthropic projects. Exploration refers to the historical practice of discovering remote lands. It is studied by geographers and historians. Two major eras of exploration occurred in human history: one of convergence, and one of divergence. The first, covering most of ''Homo sapiens'' history, saw humans moving out of Africa, settling in new lands, and developing distinct cultures in relative isolation.
