Jaroslav Kubera
Jaroslav Kubera (16 February 1947 – 20 January 2020) was a Czech politician for the Civic Democratic Party, who served in the Czech Senate representing Teplice from 2000 and the Senate President from 2018 until his death in 2020. He previously served as mayor of Teplice from 1994 to 2018. Kubera was a potential candidate in the 2018 presidential election, gathering enough support from fellow senators to register his candidacy, before deciding not to run. He died on 20 January 2020 after suffering a heart attack, becoming the first high-ranking Czech official to die in office. Early life and career Kubera was born in Louny on 16 February 1947. He studied mathematics at Masaryk University and business at the University of Economics, Prague, but did not complete his studies. Kubera stated that he left school due to impatience. TOP 09 (name derived from cs, Tradice Odpovědnost Prosperita, lit=Tradition Responsibility Prosperity) is a liberal-conservative political party in the Czech Republic, led by Markéta Pekarová Adamová. Jaroslav (also written as Yaroslav or Jarosław in other Slavic languages) is a Czech and Slovak first name, pagan in origin. There are several possible origins of the name Jaroslav. It is very likely that originally the two elements of the name referred to ''Jarilo'' - male Proto-Slavic deity of the sun, spring, and fertility, and ''slav'' meaning glory, i.e. "glory of the sun". Valtr Komárek
Valtr Komarek (10 August 1930 – 16 May 2013) was a Czech economist, forecaster and politician. A participant in the Velvet Revolution in 1989, Komárek subsequently entered politics a part of the Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD), leading the party into elections in 1992, and serving as honorary chairman of the party from March 2011. He also served as First Deputy Minister of National Understanding, and as an MP in the Federal Assembly. He is considered one of the key figures of the Velvet Revolution and post-revolution politics and economics. Life Komárek was born in Hodonín to a Jewish family. His parents died during World War II in a concentration camp, but Valtr was placed in foster care and survived the Holocaust. After the war he joined the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ).
