Janet Ryder
Janet Ryder (born 21 June 1955) is a Welsh politician. She was a Plaid Cymru member of the National Assembly for Wales for North Wales from 1999 to 2011. She moved with her family to Wales in 1990 and has since learnt Welsh. Professional career Ryder was born in Sunderland. A former teacher and youth worker, she was involved with voluntary and community work in her home town of Ruthin. In 2010 she became a member of the executive board of the Wales Rugby League and has been one of its patrons since 2006. She was formerly the Chair of Canolfan Awelon Management Committee and was also a former director on the board of Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council. Political career Ryder has served as Mayor of Ruthin, on the Denbighshire County Council from 1995 to 1999, and on the Plaid Cymru National Executive, where she was formerly Shadow Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning. North Wales (Senedd Electoral Region)
North Wales () is an electoral region of the Senedd, consisting of nine constituencies. The region elects thirteen members, nine directly elected constituency members and four additional members. The electoral region was first used in the 1999 Welsh Assembly election, when the National Assembly for Wales was created. Each constituency elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post electoral system, and the region as a whole elects four additional or top-up Members of the Senedd, to create a degree of proportional representation. The additional member seats are allocated from closed lists by the D'Hondt method, with constituency results being taken into account in the allocation. 1999 National Assembly For Wales Election
The first National Assembly for Wales elections were held on 6 May 1999. The overall turnout of voters was 46.3%. Although Welsh Labour were the biggest party, they did not gain enough seats to form a majority government and instead entered into coalition with the Liberal Democrats. The election was marked by the historically high level of support for Plaid Cymru, who won their highest share of the vote in any Wales-wide election and, as of 2021, their highest number of seats in an Assembly election to date. The party won considerable support in traditionally safe Labour areas such as the South Wales Valleys, winning Rhondda and Islwyn and narrowly failing to win a number of other seats. Female (symbol: ♀) is the sex of an organism that produces the large non-motile ova (egg cells), the type of gamete (sex cell) that fuses with the male gamete during sexual reproduction.
