Ed Werenich
Edward Werenich (born June 23, 1947) is a Canadian curler from Holland Landing, Ontario. Nicknamed "The Wrench," Werenich has been known to be a colourful and outspoken character. Outside of curling, Werenich worked as a firefighter. Career Werenich was born and raised in the town of Benito, Manitoba but moved to Toronto after finishing high school. He began curling at age ten. In 1972, Werenich joined Paul Savage's team as his second. The following year they would play in their first Brier. They would return again in 1974 and then in 1977 with Werenich as Savage's third. Without a championship, Werenich skipped his own team to the Brier in 1981, but still could not win. In 1983 Savage joined Werenich as his third and they would go on to win the Brier title that year over Ed Lukowich of Alberta. Al Hackner
Allan A. Hackner (born July 18, 1954), nicknamed "the Iceman", is a retired Canadian Hall of Fame curler from Thunder Bay, Ontario. He was born in Nipigon, Ontario. He is a two-time Brier and World Champion skip. He is of Ojibwa descent and is a member of the Red Rock Indian Band. He is currently a member of USA Curling's High Performance Program Coaching staff. Career Hackner has skipped the Northern Ontario team at nine Briers. He won the Brier in 1982 and again in 1985. In 1982, he defeated Brent Giles of British Columbia to win his first Brier. In 1985, he defeated Pat Ryan of Alberta to win his second Brier. To tie the game with last rock in the 10th end Hackner had to make a near impossible double-take out, coming around a guard to hit two stones some 6 feet apart, which would later go down in curling infamy as the "Al Hackner double". The 2019 Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships, Canada's national 50+ curling championship was held March 22 to 28 at the Chilliwack Curling and Community Centre in Chilliwack, British Columbia. The winning teams were supposed to represent Canada at the 2020 World Senior Curling Championships, but it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
