2019 Canadian Senior Curling Championships
The 2019 Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships, Canada's national 50+ curling championship was held March 22 to 28 at the Chilliwack Curling and Community Centre in Chilliwack, British Columbia. The winning teams were supposed to represent Canada at the 2020 World Senior Curling Championships, but it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was the first event to be held at the new Chilliwack Curling and Community Centre facility. The men's event was headlined by defending champions Bryan Cochrane of Ontario and two-time world champion Al Hackner of Northern Ontario. The women's event was headlined by defending champions Sherry Anderson (and 2018 World Senior champion) of Saskatchewan, 2006 Olympic bronze medallist Glenys Bakker of Alberta and four-time Tournament of Hearts bronze medallist Sherry Middaugh Sherry L. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. Nanaimo Curling Club
The Nanaimo Curling Club is a curling club located in Nanaimo, British Columbia. The club plays out of the Nanaimo Curling Centre on Wall Street in Bowen Park. The club was founded in 1947 at the Nanaimo Civic Arena, though the club began regular curling play in 1949 on one sheet of ice. A four sheet curling rink was built in 1951 located immediately north of the current club site. A fifth sheet was added in 1953, at the same time the Ladies club was incorporated. The club built an eight sheet club in 1969. In 2017, the club won the Travelers Curling Club Championship. Lac La Biche ( ) is a hamlet in Lac La Biche County within northeast Alberta, Canada. It is located approximately northeast of the provincial capital of Edmonton. Previously incorporated as a town, Lac La Biche amalgamated with Lakeland County to form Lac La Biche County on August 1, 2007. Lac La Biche Curling Club
Lac is the resinous secretion of a number of species of lac insects, of which the most commonly cultivated is ''Kerria lacca''. Cultivation begins when a farmer gets a stick that contains eggs ready to hatch and ties it to the tree to be infested. Thousands of lac insects colonize the branches of the host trees and secrete the resinous pigment. The coated branches of the host trees are cut and harvested as sticklac. The harvested sticklac is crushed and sieved to remove impurities. The sieved material is then repeatedly washed to remove insect parts and other material. The resulting product is known as seedlac. The prefix ''seed'' refers to its pellet shape. Seedlac, which still contains 3–5% impurity, is processed into shellac by heat treatment or solvent extraction. Wade White (born c. 1962) is a Canadian curler. He currently skips (captains) his own team based in Alberta, Canada. Glenys Bakker
Glenys Bakker (born August 27, 1962 in High River, Alberta) is a Canadian curler from Calgary, Alberta. Bakker played second for Shannon Kleibrink's bronze medal winning team at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Bakker played for Shannon Kleibrink for most of her curling career. At the 1993 Scott Tournament of Hearts, Bakker was Kleibrink's Alternate. She was Kleibrink's third at the 1997 Canadian Olympic Trials where the team lost to Sandra Schmirler in the final. In 2004, she was Kleibrink's second at the 2004 Scott Tournament of Hearts where they finished with a 6–5 record.
