Jana Kirschner
Jana Kirschner (born Jana Kirschnerová; 29 December 1978 in Martin) is a Slovak singer, songwriter and multiple award winner across several music genres. In 1996 she released her first album ''Jana Kirschner,'' however, it was her second record ''V cudzom meste'' which brought Jana Kirschner widespread recognition and popularity in Slovakia and later in the Czech Republic. She won four ZAI Awards including the New Artist of the Year (1997), Album and Music Artist of the Year respectively (1999), and Female Singer of the Year (2000). In 1999, she topped the local Slávik poll–based awards. In the years 2003 and 2007, she won two Aurel Awards as Female Singer of the Year. Martin, Slovakia
Martin (; sk, Turčiansky Svätý Martin until 1950, hu, Turócszentmárton, German: ''Turz-Sankt Martin'', Latin: ''Sanctus Martinus / Martinopolis'') is a city in northern Slovakia, situated on the Turiec river, between the Malá Fatra and Veľká Fatra mountains, near the city of Žilina. Miroslav Žbirka
Miroslav "Miro" Žbirka (21 October 1952 – 10 November 2021) was a Slovak pop and rock singer and songwriter, widely popular in 1980s Czechoslovakia. Born in Bratislava to a Slovak father and an English mother, he sang in Slovak, English, and Czech. He sometimes recorded in London, but lived in Slovakia and since early 1990s in Prague, Czech Republic, where he died. In the late 1970s, Žbirka co-founded two Czechoslovak pop music bands, Modus and Limit. In 1982, he rose to fame by winning the annual Zlatý slavík award for the best male singer in Czechoslovakia. After the 1992 division of Czechoslovakia, he repeated this achievement in the Slovak annual Slávik Awards, coming number one in the annual end of year charts in 2002, 2004 and 2005. The 100 Greatest Slovak Albums Of All Time
The 100 Greatest Slovak Albums of All Time is a list of the best album releases issued by Slovak recording artists. As the first such list presented in Slovakia, it was published by '' Nový čas'' daily on 22 September 2007. The list is entirely composed of Slovak, or else of formerly Czechoslovak artists, featuring all albums published in the country of origin from the 1960s onwards. Some of nominated full-length records could have been performed also in a different language (occasionally in English but partially). Ranking itself was based on votes received from twenty-five selected native-born musicians, critics and/or industry figures. Each of them voted ten most significant Slovak LPs from the past four decades in the country. Peter Lipa (born May 30, 1943) is a Slovak singer, composer, and promoter of jazz. He has been called the Father of Slovak Jazz. Lipa is regarded as the most significant figure in the Slovak jazz scene. He developed a unique vocal style that focused on the lyrics. His music is influenced by performers including Jimmy Rushing, Ray Charles, Al Jarreau, Joe Cocker, and Bobby McFerrin, and is a mix of jazz and blues. He was the first jazz singer to use Slovak. Jaromír Nohavica or Jarek Nohavica (born 7 June 1953, in Ostrava) is a Czech recording artist, songwriter, lyricist and poet. Early life He was born in Ostrava and has played guitar since he was 13. Tomáš Klus
Tomáš Klus (born 15 May 1986) is a Czech musician and songwriter from the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. Life and career Klus was born in the industrial town of Třinec, where he spent most of his childhood. His parents were folk music fans, and he accompanied them to many concerts and music festivals. Growing up he was heavily influenced by musicians Karel Plíhal, Karel Kryl and in particular Jaromír Nohavica, who is still a major influence on Klus' music. Klus moved to Prague aged 15 to pursue a sporting career, and was a member of the gold medal winning team in modern pentathlon in the 2002 European championship. Ivan Tásler (born 16 July 1979 in Prešov, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak singer, guitarist, composer, and producer. His career is closely connected with the band IMT Smile. The history of IMT Smile started in 1992 when it was founded by brothers Ivan and Miro Táslers whose initial letters have given the name to the band.
