Jan Looten
Jan Looten (1617-18 in Amsterdam – c. 1681 in United KingdomJan Looten at RKD) was a Dutch landscape painter. He is first recorded in Amsterdam at his wedding with Catelijntje Harmans in September 1643, as a 25-year old painter from Amsterdam, son of Laurens Jansz Loten. In or after 1664 he moved to London and later to York. Samuel Pepys reportedly visited his studio in 1669 and was "unimpressed" with his work and was recommended to Simon Verelst, who he saw more favourably. He taught the painter and draftsman Jan Griffier. Four landscapes attributed to Jan Looten are in the Royal Collection, two of which were painted in ''c.'' 1675 for James II of England, King James II of England.O. Samuel Pepys
Samuel Pepys (; 23 February 1633 – 26 May 1703) was an English diarist and naval administrator. He served as administrator of the Royal Navy and Member of Parliament and is most famous for the diary he kept for a decade. Pepys had no maritime experience, but he rose to be the Chief Secretary to the Admiralty under both King Charles II and King James II through patronage, diligence, and his talent for administration. His influence and reforms at the Admiralty were important in the early professionalisation of the Royal Navy. Simon Pietersz Verelst (1644–1721?) was a Dutch Golden Age painter. He is known for outstanding flower and fruit still life paintings. Biography Verelst was born in The Hague. Jan Griffier
Jan Griffier ( 1652 – 1718) was a Dutch Golden Age painter who was active in England, where he was admitted to the London Company of Painter-Stainers in 1677. Biography Griffier was born in Amsterdam and learned to paint landscapes and to engrave from Roelant Roghman. His birthdate is uncertain. According to Houbraken he was born in 1656, and according to English accounts he may have been older by up to 10 years, but in 1700 he was registered in Leiden in the ''Album studiosorum'' of the university art academy there as being 48 years old and living on the ''Stadstimmerwerf''. He produced views of Rhineland landscapes as well as of the English countryside, and returned to the Netherlands for a decade after ''ca'' 1695, but was engaged for at least two decades in England where he worked for the Dutch painter Jan Looten (1617/1618 – 1681). James II Of England

Dutch Golden Age painting is the painting of the Dutch Golden Age, a period in Dutch history roughly spanning the 17th century, during and after the later part of the Eighty Years' War (1568–1648) for Dutch independence. The new Dutch Republic was the most prosperous nation in Europe and led European trade, science, and art. The northern Netherlandish provinces that made up the new state had traditionally been less important artistic centres than cities in Flanders in the south. The upheavals and large-scale transfers of population of the war, and the sharp break with the old monarchist and Catholic cultural traditions, meant that Dutch art had to reinvent itself almost entirely, a task in which it was very largely successful.
