Jan Kåre Hystad
Jan Kåre "Hysen" Hystad (born 9 July 1955) is a Norwegian jazz musician (saxophone, clarinet, flute), and the older brother of jazz saxophonist Ole Jacob Hystad. He is known as leader of his own Quartet and as part of the Bergen Big Band with cooperations with Teje Rypdal, John Surman and Karin Krogh. Career Hystad was born in Stord and was classically educated at Griegakademiet, University of Bergen. Since 1978 he has been a resident of Bergen where he has been freelance musician, he led his own ensembles, as well as being involved as Musical Director & Musician at Den Nationale Scene and in Bergen Big Band. Stord
Stord is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sunnhordland. Stord is sometimes called "Norway in miniature" since it has such a variety of landscapes: coastline, fjords, forests, agricultural land, and mountain areas. Kaizers Orchestra
Kaizers Orchestra is a Norwegian alternative rock band formed on 1 January 2000. They are notable for being among the first non-black metal Norwegian artists singing in their native language to become popular beyond Scandinavia. In 2012, the group announced that following a 2013 "Farewell Tour", they would take a long break. Their final concert was held on 14 September 2013 at DNB Arena in Stavanger, and was also streamed live online. Following weeks of teasers and speculation, the band confirmed a reunion and comeback tour scheduled for 2023. Trygve Thue
Trygve Thue (21 June 1950 – 14 April 2022) was a Norwegian guitarist and music producer, and an original member of the Norwegian band . He was the brother of the folk singer . Career Thue was born in Bergen and received his first musical accolades with "Freeze on His Back" in the boys choir ''Folkeskolens Guttekor'' in 1958 in Bergen. His background as choir boy often gave him a competitive advantage in polyphonic singing and instrumental harmonies, a result of his many hours in the studio making albums such as Jan Eggum's "En Natt Forbi" and "Bare Nerver" in which he both wrote and sang the voices in the choir. Ole Thomsen (born 28 November 1952 in Bergen, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (guitar) and composer, known from a number of releases and since 1977 central on the Bergen jazz scene. (in Norwegian) He is the older brother of another Bergen Guitarist, Kåre Thomsen. Jan Eggum
Jan Eggum (born 8 December 1951) is a Norwegian singer-songwriter. He has been characterized as a "face for the melancholy", and the themes in his songs are often broken hearts, loneliness, and sorrow. Sometimes his lyrics include social criticism, but he also shows trivial and funny sides of himself. Career Eggum was born in Bergen, but started as a pub singer in London, and made his living for two years writing songs in English. One of his most famous songs – "En natt forbi" ("A night is over") – was originally written in English, with the title "Alone, Awake". He got a record contract in 1975 with the Norwegian record company CBS, and recorded his debut album "Trubadur" that autumn. His breakthrough came after his third release, the album "Heksedans" from 1977. This album gave him the Norwegian award Spellemannsprisen, and on this album has such classics as "Mor, jeg vil tilbake". Bergen Blues Band (1974 - 1984) was a Norwegian blues band from Bergen, Norway. Vancouver Jazz Festival
The Vancouver International Jazz Festival is an annual summer event in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The festival grew out of a local jazz scene that centred on Vancouver Co-op Radio ( CFRO-FM), a community radio station, in the early 1980s. The Pacific Jazz and Blues Association was formed in 1984 and hosted the Pacific Jazz and Blues Festival, which showcased regional jazz and blues artists in addition to some international jazz musicians. By 1986, the group had changed its name to the Coastal Jazz and Blues Society, secured corporate sponsorship, and partnered with Expo 86 to produce the first annual Vancouver International Jazz Festival.
