Jan Duursema
Jan Duursema (born October 27, 1954) is an American comics artist known for her work on the ''Star Wars'' comics franchise. She is the creator of Denin and Vila from Naldar, the Twi'lek Jedi Aayla Secura and the Kiffar Jedi Quinlan Vos. Career Jan Duursema's first published comics work appeared in '' Heavy Metal'' vol. 3 #3 (July 1979). She drew several stories for DC Comics' ''Sgt. Rock'' title beginning in 1980. With writer Paul Kupperberg, she co-created the Arion character in '' The Warlord'' #55 (March 1982) and the ''Arion, Lord of Atlantis'' series was launched in November 1982. Duursema was one of the artists of ''Wonder Woman'' #300 (Feb. 1983). She provided artwork to the '' Star Ace'' role-playing game from Pacesetter Ltd. Her first work for Marvel Comics, as well as her first work on the ''Star Wars'' franchise, appeared in ''Star Wars'' #92 (Feb. 1985). East Coast Comicon
The East Coast Comicon is an annual comic book fan convention that takes place in New Jersey. It began in 2011 as the Asbury Park Comicon, and took place in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Due to its expansion and the need for a larger venue, it was renamed the East Coast Comicon in 2015, and moved to the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, New Jersey. History The Asbury Park Comicon was founded by Cliff Galbraith of Crucial Entertainment, LLC. The show was conceived when Galbraith attended and observed crowds of people looking through cardboard boxes filled with albums. Galbraith relates, "I said, 'Who else looks through white boxes?' And a light bulb went off." Comparing his convention to the enormous crowds of the much larger New York Comic-Con, which takes place in nearby Manhattan, Galbraith comments, "What we offer is a much more civilized, intimate setting. Chewbacca ( ), nicknamed "Chewie", is a fictional character in the ''Star Wars'' franchise. Hawkman is the name of several superheroes appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. ''Hawkworld'' is a comic book series published by American company DC Comics from 1989 to 1993. The initial storyline was published as a three-issue mini-series and then, based on the high sales and interest level generated by this limited series, launched as an ongoing monthly book. Katar Hol and Shayera Thal were rebooted in the prestige format limited series. John Ostrander
John Ostrander (born April 20, 1949) is an American writer of comic books, including ''Suicide Squad'', ''Grimjack'' and '' Star Wars: Legacy''. Career Ostrander studied theology with the intent of becoming a Catholic priest, but now describes himself as an agnostic. Originally an actor in the Organic Theater Company in Chicago, Ostrander moved into writing comics in 1983. His first published works were stories about the character "Sargon, Mistress of War", and appeared in the First Comics series ''Warp!'', based on a series of plays by that same Chicago theatre company. He and Timothy Truman co-created the character Grimjack, who originally appeared in a backup story in the First Comics title, ''Starslayer'', before receiving his own title. ''DC Challenge'' was a 12-issue comic book limited series produced by DC Comics from November 1985 to October 1986, as a round robin experiment in narrative. The series' tagline was "Can You Solve It Before We Do?" Publication history The ''DC Challenge'' series was conceived during a rooftop party at the 1983 San Diego Comic-Con. The premise of the series was that each chapter would be written by a different author and illustrated by a different artist. No consultation between authors was permitted. As well, each chapter would end in a seemingly impossible cliffhanger from which that chapter's author had to have planned a viable escape, and the name of the next chapter would be provided.
