Jan Allen
Jan Allen (born 1952) is a Canadian curator, writer, visual artist, and assistant professor in the Department of Art History and Art Conservation, and the Cultural Studies Program, at Queen's University, in Kingston, Ontario. Early life and education Allen, born in Windsor, Ontario, was raised in Toronto and Mississauga. In 1972, she enrolled in Queen's University at Kingston to study history. She attended the Banff School of Fine Arts (now the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity) in the 1970s, where her studies were focused in Ceramic History as well as Intermediate and Advanced Ceramics. She was a studio potter from 1974 to 1986. Allen completed a Bachelor of Arts (with a minor in History) in 1987, a Bachelor of Fine Arts (I Class) in 1990, and a Master of Arts in Art History in 1992; all from Queen's University. Isabelle Hayeur
Isabelle Hayeur (born 1969) is a Canadian visual artist known for her photographs and experimental film. Hayeur’s works are inspired by a critical analysis of ecology and urbanity. Since the late 1990s, Hayeur has created public art commissions, photography books, video installations, and has participated in many solo and group exhibitions. Marlene Creates
Marlene Creates (born 1952) is a Canadian artist lives and works in Portugal Cove, Newfoundland. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Creates studied visual arts at Queen's University, then lived in Ottawa for twelve years, moving to Newfoundland in 1985. A major theme of her work is the relationship between human beings and the land; she often photographs subtle traces and marks of human presence in natural environments. Her work has been shown in over 300 exhibitions across the world. In 2001 Creates, was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, and in 2013 she won CONTACT Photography Festival's BMW Prize for her exhibition ''Marlene Creates: selected works from 30 years, 1982-2012''. David Askevold
David Askevold (30 March 1940 – 23 January 2008) was an experimental Canadian artist who lived in Nova Scotia. Askevold studied art and anthropology at the University of Montana. In 1963, he won a Max Beckmann Scholarship to study painting for a year at the Brooklyn Museum Art School in New York. In 1966, he enrolled at the Kansas City Art Institute to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, in Sculpture. Askevold went to Halifax and joined the faculty of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1968. Joyce Wieland
Joyce Wieland (June 30, 1930 – June 27, 1998) was a Canadian experimental filmmaker and mixed media artist. Wieland found success as a painter when she began her career in Toronto in the 1950s. In 1962, Wieland moved to New York City and expanded her career as an artist by including new materials and mixed media work. During that time, she also rose to prominence as an experimental filmmaker and soon, institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York were showing her films. In 1971, Wieland's ''True Patriot Love'' exhibition was the first solo exhibition by a living Canadian female artist at the National Gallery of Canada.
