James Robinson (Australian Politician)
James Robinson (1860 – 16 September 1922) was an Irish-born Australian politician. He was born at Aughantane near Clogher in County Tyrone to farmer John Robinson and Jane Moore. On 15 June 1886 he married Elizabeth Colquhoun Robinson, with whom he had a daughter. He migrated to Australia in 1886 and from 1888 ran his own business in Kogarah. In 1896 he sold out and worked for Griffiths Brothers as a manager from 1921. He was involved with the Nationalist Party, serving on its council from 1917 to 1922 and as president of the Kogarah and Croydon branches. On 4 July 1922 he was appointed to the New South Wales Legislative Council The New South Wales Legislative Council, often referred to as the upper house, is one of the two chambers of the parliament of the Australian state of New South Wales. James Harvey Robinson
James Harvey Robinson (June 29, 1863 – February 16, 1936) was an American scholar of history who, with Charles Austin Beard, founded New History, a disciplinary approach that attempts to use history to understand contemporary problems, which greatly broadened the scope of historical scholarship in relation to the social sciences. Biography Robinson was born in Bloomington, Illinois, to James Harvey Robinson (1808–1874), a bank president, and Latricia Maria Drake (; 1821–1908). After traveling to Europe in 1882 Robinson entered Harvard University in 1884, earning his A.B. in 1887 and his M.A. in 1888. He continued his studies at the University of Strasbourg and the University of Freiburg and received his Ph.D. at Freiburg in 1890. In the summer of 1891, Robinson was appointed Lecturer of European history at what then was called the Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania. Jimmy Robinson (actor)
James O. Robinson Jr. (1918–1967) was an American film actor. Early life Robinson was born on 30 July 1918, in Los Angeles, California, as the son of James O. Robinson Sr. Career He played the role of "Hambone" Johnson in Fontaine Fox's Mickey McGuire film series of short subjects. He was in the series from its beginning in 1927 until its end in 1934, appearing in most of the shorts in series. During his Mickey McGuire days, Robinson also appeared in other films, such as Tenderfeet and Penrod and Sam. After the McGuire series, Robinson continued to act, but mostly in bit parts. Death Robinson died from an illness on 2 November 1967, at the age of 49, in his California home. Jim Robinson, also known as Big Jim Robinson (December 25, 1892 – May 4, 1976) was an American jazz musician, based in New Orleans, renowned for his deep, wide-toned, robust "tailgate" style of trombone playing, using the slide to achieve a wide swoop between two notes (a technique that classical musicians call "glissando") and rhythmic effects. Early life Born Nathan Robinson in Deer Range, a small settlement on the west bank of lower Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, Robinson studied music under James Brown Humphrey. Career Robinson arrived in New Orleans looking for work shortly before the 1915 New Orleans hurricane, which wiped out his home town of Deer Range, and prompted Robinson to settle in the city. Opera Theatre Of Saint Louis
Opera Theatre of Saint Louis (OTSL) is an American summer opera festival held in St. Louis, Missouri. Typically four operas, all sung in English, are presented each season, which runs from late May to late June. Performances are accompanied by the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, which is divided into two ensembles, each covering two of the operas, for the season. The company's performances are presented in the Loretto-Hilton Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Webster University. First seasons and achievements In 1976, Leigh Gerdine, Laurance L. James Robinson (filk Musician)
Dr. James Robinson (born 1948, Maine) is an American filk music songwriter and performer (known as Dr. Jane Robinson prior to 2004 sex reassignment surgery) whose songs focus on scientific themes, particularly paleontology. Robinson earned a doctorate in biology from UCLA in 1976, and went on to teach at the University of California, Berkeley. His filk albums include ''Dr. Jane's Science Notes'' (later reissued as ''Wackademia''), ''Fossil Fever'', ''Bedlam Cats'', ''Midlife Crisis'' and ''Dr. Jane's Remains''. Robinson has won two Pegasus Awards (2000, Best End of the World Song, for "Out of a Clear Blue Sky"; and 1992, Best Writer/Composer); and has been nominated an additional 14 times. Robinson was inducted into the Filk Hall of Fame in 2000. Robinson's life partner was the late Cynthia McQuillin, who reportedly said, upon meeting James for the first time, "At last I get to meet the man I fell in love with!" Wallace Art Awards
The annual Wallace Art Awards are the largest and longest-running art awards of their type in New Zealand. They were established by James Wallace in 1992. Awards are made for contemporary painting, sculpture and photography and are run by the James Wallace Charitable Arts Trust. The 2018 awards were presented by the Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy at the Pah Homestead, Auckland on 3 September 2018.
