Jami Cate
Jami Cate (born 1986/87) is an American Republican politician and farmer serving as a member of the Oregon House of Representatives. She currently represents the 11th district, which covers parts of Linn County and Marion County, including the cities of Lebanon, Sweet Home, and Jefferson. First elected to the legislature in 2020, she previously represented the 17th district, and assumed office in January 2021. Early life and education Cate is a fifth-generation Linn County farmer, and grew up on a multi-generation farm family north of Lebanon, Oregon. She received her bachelor's degree from Oregon State University in Crop and Soil Science. Career In 2020, after incumbent Sherrie Springer stepped down to run for the Linn County commission, Cate announced her candidacy for the Oregon House of Representatives' 17th district. Jefferson, Oregon
Jefferson is a city in Marion County, Oregon, United States. It is part of the Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 3,098 at the 2010 census. It is home to the annual Mint Harvest Festival and is the self-proclaimed "Mint Capital of the World" as well as "Frog Jumping Capital of Oregon." The city sits on the right bank of the Santiam River between Salem and Albany along Oregon Route 164 east of Interstate 5. History The first name for this locality was Conser's Ferry, for Jacob S. Conser, an Oregon Trail pioneer of 1848 who ran a ferry across the Santiam River. Conser was also involved in the communities of Syracuse and Santiam City, which was about downstream of Jefferson. Sweet Home, Oregon
Sweet Home is a city in Linn County, Oregon, United States, with population 8,925 at the 2010 census. Built near the site of a prehistoric petrified forest, Sweet Home experienced substantial growth during the construction of the Green Peter and Foster dams in the 1940s. The town's main attraction nowadays is the Cascade mountains through Santiam pass. History Settlers first arrived in the Sweet Home Valley in the early 1850s. A community known as Buckhead developed near the mouth of Ames Creek and the South Santiam River. Buckhead was named after a saloon that featured a set of elk antlers on the gable end of its building. East of Buckhead, a community called Mossville developed with a store and post office.
