James Wallis (New Zealand Politician)
James Wallis (1825 – 25 May 1912) was a 19th-century Member of Parliament from Auckland, New Zealand. Wallis was born in Aberdeenshire in 1825. He received his education at the University of Aberdeen, from where he graduated with a Master of Arts in 1844. He was a minister of the Presbyterian Church, and ministered in Scotland at Dundee and Aberdeen, and in British Guiana in Essequibo and Demerara. He went back for further study to become a medical missionary, and in 1863 was admitted as a member to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He travelled to New Zealand in 1865 via Africa and Australia. In 1868, Wallis married Elizabeth Poole; she was the daughter of a physician from Edinburgh. Wallis represented the Auckland West electorate from 1877 to 1881, when he was defeated. He contested the in the electorate. Of seven candidates, he came second to last. James Wallis (British Army Officer)
Major James Wallis (11 October 1785 – 12 July 1858) was an Anglo-Irish military officer who served in the 46th Regiment of Foot. Wallis saw service in Dominica, New South Wales and India. During his deployment in New South Wales, he commanded a detachment of grenadiers which committed the Appin Massacre of 1816, and was later promoted to the post of Commandant at the convict settlement of Newcastle from 1816 to 1818. Wallis is also noted for producing a number of historically significant sketches and paintings during his colonial military career. Early life James Wallis was born into an Anglo-Irish family in County Cork, Ireland, his parents being James Wallis and Lucinda Hewson. James Wallis is a British designer and publisher of tabletop and role-playing games. He is not to be confused with Myriador's Jamie Wallis, who converted ''Steve Jackson's Sorcery!'' into d20 modules. Career James Wallis began roleplaying in 1981 through ''Dungeons & Dragons'' and '' Traveller'', which were both licensed in the UK by Games Workshop at the time. Wallis began publishing his own fanzines, first ''WEREMAN'' and then ''Sound & Fury'', and got to know game designer Erick Wujcik through the latter; Wujcik introduced Wallis to Kevin Siembieda at Gen Con 22 in 1989, resulting in Wallis writing two books for Palladium Books, ''Mutants in Avalon'' (1990) and ''Mutants in Orbit'' (1992). James E. Wallis Jr. (born June 4, 1948) is an American theologian, writer, teacher and political activist. He is best known as the founder and editor of ''Sojourners'' magazine and as the founder of the Washington, D.C.-based Christian community of the same name. Wallis is well known for his advocacy on issues of peace and social justice. Although Wallis actively eschews political labels, he describes himself as an evangelical and is often associated with the evangelical left and the wider Christian left. James and Mary Wallis were Wesleyan missionaries and the first European Settlers in Raglan, New Zealand. Early years and journey to New Zealand Born on 18 April 1809 in Blackwall, London, James Wallis felt the call to ministry at a young age after a personal spiritual awakening. On 16 April 1834 - after being accepted for a position to the Pacific via the Wesleyan Missionary Society - he married Mary Ann Reddick (born 26 May 1802).
