James Patton (defensive Lineman)
James Gregory Patton (born January 5, 1970) is a former American football defensive lineman who played for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL) for two seasons, including and was on their roster when they went to Super Bowl XXVIII. Before that, he played college football at the University of Texas at Austin where he was a two-time All-Conference player and before that at Clear Creek High School in League City, Texas. College career Patton played for the Texas Longhorns, earning First-team All-Southwest Conference honors in 1990 and 1991. He was also the MVP of the Longhorns' 1991 team. He received a Bachelor and Master of Business Administration from University of Texas at Austin. Professional career Patton was selected by the Buffalo Bills with the 55th pick in the 1992 NFL Draft. A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield.
