James Kerr (October 2, 1851 – October 31, 1908) was a member of the United States House of Representatives and later the Clerk of the United States House of Representatives. Biography Kerr was born in Reedsville, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, October 2, 1851; resided in Blair County until 1864; moved to Clearfield in 1867; pursued an academic course. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate from 1869 to 1871. James Lennox Kerr
James Lennox Kerr (1 July 1899 – 11 March 1963) was a Scottish socialist author noted for his children's stories written under the pseudonym of Peter Dawlish. Kerr lived in Paisley until 1915, joined the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve by claiming to be 18, then served on merchant ships until 1929. After spending some time in Australia and America he settled in Pimlico in 1930, marrying Elizabeth "Mornie" Birch of Penwith, Cornwall in 1932. She was the daughter of Samuel John "Lamorna" Birch the RA painter. His first book, for adults, ''Back Door Guest'', described life as a hobo in USA and Canada, and is full of social comment which was then controversial. He wrote 32 books for children, most with a nautical theme and 23 books for adults, many commenting on working class life in Scotland, America and Australia. Kerr, Stuart and Company Ltd was a locomotive manufacturer in Stoke-on-Trent, England. History It was founded in 1881 by James Kerr as "James Kerr & Company", and became "Kerr, Stuart & Company" from 1883 when John Stuart was taken on as a partner. The business started in Glasgow, Scotland, but during this time they were only acting as agents ordering locomotives from established manufacturers, among them Falcon, John Fowler & Co. and Hartley, Arnoux and Fanning. They bought the last-named company in 1892 and moved into the California Works in Stoke to begin building all their own locomotives. James Kirkpatrick Kerr (1 August 1841 – 4 December 1916) was a Canadian lawyer and Senator. He served as Speaker of the Senate of Canada during the 11th Parliament from 14 January 1909 to 22 October 1911. Kerr was born in Guelph in what was then Canada West. He was called to the bar of Upper Canada in 1862 and began a legal partnership with Edward Blake, Samuel Blake and James Bethune. He became head, in 1884, of the legal firm of Kerr, Davidson, Paterson and Grant. In his career, Kerr argued several cases before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council and was elected a Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1879. He was an active Liberal and stood unsuccessfully for election to the House of Commons of Canada in 1891 from Toronto Centre. James Hutchison Kerr (August 30, 1837 – June 10, 1919) was an American educator, engineer, and politician. James Hutchison Kerr was born on August 30, 1837, to parents John Alexander Kerr and Eliza Jane Hutchison. Through his father, Kerr was of Scots-Irish descent. His mother's family was of Scottish descent. Both Kerr's paternal and maternal ancestors rebelled against James II of England during the Siege of Derry. The Kerr family lived in Chambersville, Pennsylvania, and subsequently moved to Oxford, Pennsylvania in 1844. Kerr was a pupil at New London Academy, then pursued further education in Rochester and Albany, New York, where he specialized in geology. James Kerr (1834 – 25 August 1901) was an editor and politician. He was a member of the New Zealand Legislative Council from 1892 until his death. Kerr was born in Dumfriesshire, Scotland in 1834. He was an editor and worked for the ''Dumfriesshire and Galloway Herald'', and then the ''Dumfries Courier''. He emigrated to Melbourne in 1858 and after some time on gold fields, he worked for ''The Age'' alongside George Fisher. In 1861, he emigrated to Otago and joined the ''Otago Daily Times''.
