James Bennett (Australian Footballer)
James Bennett (born 5 November 1964) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Bennett was a Collegians footballer, who spent most of his time with Hawthorn in the reserves, due to the strength of the senior team. He played perhaps his best game, in the opening round of the 1985 VFL season, when he had 18 disposals and kicked three goals against Geelong. The ''James Gordon Bennett'' was a 19th-century two-masted pilot boat, built in 1870 at the Lawrence & Foulks shipyard. She was named in honor of James Gordon Bennett, Jr., publisher of the ''New York Herald''. She went ashore in 1893 and was rebuilt at the C. & R. Poillon shipyard. In 1897, the ''James Gordon Bennett'' was bought by Miller J. Morse of the Atlantic Yacht Club and made into a yacht. He changed her name to ''Hermit''. The New Jersey pilots purchased her in 1901, to replace the , that was run down by the steamship ''Alene''. The ''Hermit'' sank in 1906, when the steamship ''Monterey'' ran into her. James V (10 April 1512 – 14 December 1542) was King of Scotland from 9 September 1513 until his death in 1542. He was crowned on 21 September 1513 at the age of seventeen months. James was the son of King James IV and Margaret Tudor, and during his childhood Scotland was governed by regents, firstly by his mother until she remarried, and then by his second cousin, John, Duke of Albany. James Bennett (Tewkesbury)
James Bennett (10 May 1785 – 29 January 1856) was a British printer and book seller who became a publisher. In 1830 he produced a history of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, England. Well regarded sources also describe him as a topographer, but without identifying his contribution to topography. Life James Bennett was born at Green Farm, Falfield in Thornbury, Gloucestershire, roughly 15 miles (24 km) north-east of Bristol, sited on low ground a few miles inland to the east of the Severn Estuary. His father, an independent farmer called John Bennett, was father to thirteen recorded children, of whom James was the eighth. James attended school at nearby Stone and then embarked on an apprenticeship with George Robbins, a printer in Bath, at that time in the adjacent county of Somerset. James Bennett (minister)
James Bennett D.D. (22 May 1774 – 4 December 1862) was an English congregational minister and college principal. Life Bennett was born in London 22 May 1774, and was educated there and at Gosport, where he was prepared for the congregational ministry David Bogue. In 1797 he was ordained at Romsey, where he remained till 1813. There he became a supporter of the London Missionary Society, and supported Robert and James Haldane in some of their evangelistic tours. In 1813, Bennett moved to Rotherham, where he was both tutor in Rotherham College and pastor of the church. In 1828 he was transferred to London, where, first in Silver Street and then in Falcon Square, he exercised his ministry till 1860, when he resigned. Among his congregation was David Livingstone, while in London as a medical student. Bennett died in London, 4 December 1862, at the age of 88. Jim Bennett (rugby League)
Jim Bennett was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1910s, 1920s and 1930s who played for the Australian national team. A Queensland state representative front-row forward, he played his entire career for clubs in Queensland, and was one of the state's early star players, making thirty-six appearances for the Maroons between 1921 and 1930. Career Bennett was still a junior when in 1916 from the Brisbane Brothers club he was selected to represent Brisbane against Maryborough. He spent the 1917 season with Wests Brisbane in the senior grade then headed north to Cairns for the 1918–1919 seasons. He returned to Wests in 1920 and helped the club go through that year's Brisbane Premiership as undefeated champions. In 1921 he made the first of his state representative appearances for Queensland. James Bennett (1944 – 31 December 2014) was an Irish hurler who played as a right corner-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Bennettsbridge, County Kilkenny, Bennett first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-one when he first linked up with the Kilkenny senior team. He made his senior debut during the 1965 championship. Bennett subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one All-Ireland medal, one Leinster medal and one National Hurling League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions Bennett won one Railway Cup medal.
