James Francis Maxwell
James Francis Maxwell was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was the mayor of the City of Brisbane and a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for Toowong. Early life James Francis Maxwell was born in 1862 in County Armagh, Ireland, the son of Samuel Maxwell and his wife Matilda (née Stoops). On 23 July 1890 he married Alice Annie Letitia Davies at St Peter's Church at West End, Brisbane, the daughter of John Davies, the engineer and manager at the South Brisbane Gas Company who designed the (now heritage-listed) West End Gasworks. Politics Maxwell was a member of the Toombul Shire Council and its chairman in 1904 and 1905. Maxwell was the mayor of the City of Brisbane from 1920 to 1921. Charles Packenham Buchanan
Alderman Charles Pakenham Buchanan (9 November 1874 – 22 September 1924) was Mayor of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia from 1909 for two terms. Charles Pakenham Buchanan was born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia on 9 November 1874 to John Alfred Buchanan (born Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland 1843 - Brisbane 1886) and Jessie Jane Fraser (born Brisbane 14 December 1849 - Brisbane 1944). He was educated at St. Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace in Brisbane. He attended the University of Sydney where he graduated with a B.A. in 1900. He married Elsie Waverley Newman, daughter of the well known photographer John Hubert Newman in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in 1899. Legislative Assembly Of Queensland
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). The Shire of Toombul was a local government area of Queensland, Australia, located in northern Brisbane from 1883 to 1925. History The Nundah Division was one of the original divisions created on 11 November 1879 under the ''Divisional Boards Act of 1879''. The division was a large one, ranging from the Pine River in the north to the Brisbane River in the south and from Moreton Bay in the east to Chinaman's Creek (now South Pine River) in the west. The residents in the southern part of the division (the Toombul area) felt their needs were quite distinct from those further north and immediately began to agitate for the division to be split. On 1 November 1883, the Toombul Division was separated from the Nundah Division (which was later renamed the Kedron Division). West End Gasworks is a heritage-listed gasworks at 321 Montague Road, West End, Queensland, West End, Queensland, Australia. It is also known as South Brisbane Gas and Light Company Works. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 22 October 1999. History The West End Gasworks was established in June 1885 to supplement the Brisbane supply of gas.
