James David Santini
James David Santini (August 13, 1937 – September 22, 2015) was an American attorney, politician and lobbyist who served as the United States House of Representatives, U.S. representative for Nevada's at-large congressional district from 1975 to 1983. He was a member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party until 1986, when he joined the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party. Early life and education Born in Reno, Nevada, Santini graduated from Bishop Manogue High School in 1955 and attended the University of Nevada, Reno, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He earned his Juris Doctor from University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1962 and was admitted to the Nevada state bar in the same year, as well as California in 1963 and Arizona in 1966. Nevada's 2nd congressional district is a congressional district that includes the northern third of the state. It includes most of Lyon County, all of Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Pershing, Storey, and Washoe counties, as well as the state capital, Carson City. The largest city in the district is Reno, the state's third largest city. Although the district appears rural, its politics are dominated by Reno and Carson City. As of 2017, over 460,000 people reside in Washoe County alone, totaling about two-thirds of the district's population. Nevada's 1st congressional district occupies most of Nevada's largest city, Las Vegas, as well as parts of North Las Vegas and parts of unincorporated Clark County. Before the 1980 census, Nevada was represented by a single at-large congressional district. As a result of the redistricting cycle after the 1980 Census, Nevada was split into two districts, due to its high population growth, relative to the rest of the country. Mayer Jacob Hecht (November 30, 1928 – May 15, 2006) was an American Republican politician and diplomat who served as a United States Senator from Nevada from 1983 to 1989, and as U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas from 1989 to 1993. Early life and education Hecht was born into a Jewish family in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. His mother was born in Kiev and his paternal grandparents were from Poland and Germany. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in retailing from Washington University in St. Louis in 1949. Hecht attended Military Intelligence School at Fort Holabird and served as an intelligence agent with the U.S. armed forces during the Korean War, from 1951 to 1953. Howard Cannon
Howard Walter Cannon (January 26, 1912 – March 5, 2002) was an American politician from Nevada. Elected to the first of four consecutive terms in 1958, he served in the United States Senate from 1959 to 1983. He was a member of the Democratic Party. Born in St. George, Utah, Cannon graduated from Northern Arizona University and the University of Arizona Law School. In 1940, Cannon won his first election as county attorney for Washington County, Utah.
