James Davey (rugby League)
James Davey (born ) is a former English Rugby league footballer who last played as a for the Sheffield Eagles in the Betfred Championship. Career He made his first team début for Wakefield in 2009's Super League XIV, coming off the bench in a 31–18 loss away to Hull Kingston Rovers. In Super League XVI, 2011, Davey scored his first professional try in 26–24 points win over Hull Kingston Rovers, Hull K.R. He played 19 times for Trinity and had loan spells with RFL Championship sides Featherstone Rovers and Keighley Cougars. Following his time at Wakefield, Davey moved on to then Championship title holders Sheffield Eagles. He made nearly 100 apps for the Eagles during his three years with the club and notched up 14 tries. After his release from Sheffield, James Davey joined fellow Championship side Batley Bulldogs. The 1895 Cup is a British rugby league competition for clubs in the Rugby League Championships. History There have been many cup competitions for the lower leagues of rugby league. In 2002 the Championship Cup was founded for Championship (rugby league), Championship and League 1 (rugby league), League 1 clubs to compete in along with the Challenge Cup, with the aim to give the lower league clubs a competition they can realistically win. The Championship Cup folded in 2013 in anticipation for the 2015 league restructuring. There was no replacement for Championship clubs, though the League 1 Cup ran from 2015-2017 for teams from that league. In late 2018 a new cup competition, named in honour of the founding of the Northern Union in 1895, was put to the Championship and League 1 clubs. The Widnes Vikings are an English rugby league club in Widnes, Cheshire, which competes in the Betfred Championship. The club plays home matches at the Halton Stadium. Founded as Widnes Football Club, they are one of the original twenty-two rugby clubs that formed the Northern Rugby Football Union in 1895. Their historic nickname is "The Chemics" after the main industry in Widnes, but now they use their modern nickname, "The Vikings". The Championship, known as the Betfred Championship for sponsorship reasons, is a professional rugby league competition. It is the Rugby Football League Championship Second Division, second-tier competition organised by the Rugby Football League, the governing body for the sport in England, and consists of 14 teams, with promotion to the Super League and relegation to the third-tier competition, RFL League 1, League One. The league announced a two-year sponsorship deal with the bookmaking company Betfred ahead of the 2018 RFL Championship, 2018 season.
