James Cuffe (died 1828)
James Cuffe (1778 – 29 July 1828) was an Irish MP in the Irish and UK Parliaments. Life He was one of two illegitimate sons of James Cuffe, 1st Baron Tyrawley and the actress Sarah Wewitzer. Cuffe was elected to the Irish House of Commons for Tulsk in February 1800. The Parliament of Ireland was abolished on 31 December that year. He was then elected to the UK Parliament as MP for Tralee in 1819, sitting until his death in 1828. He was a trustee of the Irish Linen Board in 1815 and Custos Rotulorum of Mayo from 1800 to death, High Sheriff of Mayo The High Sheriff of Mayo was the British Crown's judicial representative in County Mayo, Ireland from the 16th century until 1922, when the office was abolished in the new Free State and replaced by the office of Mayo County Sheriff. James Cuffe, 1st Baron Tyrawley
James Cuffe, 1st Baron Tyrawley (1747 – 15 June 1821) was an Irish peer and politician. Life Cuffe's father was James Cuffe (died 1762), James Cuffe of Elmhall and Ballinrobe Castle and his mother was Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Arthur Gore, 2nd Baronet and Elizabeth Annesley, and sister of Arthur Gore, 1st Earl of Arran. From 1768 until 1797 Cuffe represented Mayo (Parliament of Ireland constituency), Mayo in the Irish House of Commons. In 1776, he stood also for Donegal Borough (Parliament of Ireland constituency), Donegal Borough and in 1783 for Tuam (Parliament of Ireland constituency), Tuam, however, chose both times not to sit. He was created Baron Tyrawley on 7 November 1797 and was elected as one of the first representative peers for Ireland in 1800. He was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Mayo, Governor of Mayo, a position he held until 1821. Sir Edward Denny, 4th Baronet
Sir Edward Denny, 4th Baronet (2 October 1796 – 13 June 1889) was an Anglo-Irish baronet and composer of hymns. Life He was the eldest son of Sir Edward Denny, 3rd Baronet and Elizabeth Day, daughter of the Hon. Robert Day, judge of the Court of King's Bench (Ireland) and his first wife Mary (Polly) Potts. In 1827, Denny became High Sheriff of Kerry. In 1831, he succeeded his father as baronet and inherited a substantial portion of Tralee. Denny remained unmarried throughout his life. His family motto was "Act Mea Messis Erit" — "in age my harvest shall be". Sarah Wewitzer
Sarah Wewitzer (1756–1820) was a British actress and singer who styled herself Lady Tyrawley in later life in Ireland. Life Wewitzer was baptised in 1756 by Peter and Ann Wewitzer. She had Norwegian heritage. She first appeared in a theatre in 1772 where she specialised in the works of Isaac Bickerstaff. Her siblings including her elder sister and her brother Ralph Wewitzer were also entertainers. In 1774 she may have sung at Marylebone Gardens and she may have made similar performances before 1772. Wewitzer appeared at the Smock Alley Theatre where she made her home in Dublin. In 1775, her reputation was compared favourably with the notorious Ann Catley. Her reputation for purity ended when she set up home with James Cuffe who was the member of parliament for Mayo and had an estranged wife, Mary.
