James Cobban (Saskatchewan Politician)
James Cobban (November 24, 1870 – March 19, 1934) was a rancher and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Elrose from 1929 to 1934 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Conservative. He was born in Middlemiss, Ontario (near London), the son of Alexander Cobban and Rebecca Plain, and came to western Canada in 1890. Cobham married Annie Campbell in 1902. Elrose was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in southwestern Saskatchewan, this constituency was centred on the town of Elrose. The riding was created before the 3rd Saskatchewan general election in 1912 as "Eagle Creek"; it was renamed "Elrose" in 1917. The district was dissolved and combined with the Rosetown riding (as Rosetown-Elrose) before the 18th Saskatchewan general election in 1975. It is now part of a revived Rosetown-Elrose constituency. The Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is the legislative chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislature in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, in the name of the King in Right of Saskatchewan. The assembly meets at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. There are 61 constituencies in the province, which elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Legislative Assembly. All are single-member districts, though the cities of Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw were in the past represented through multi-member districts, with members elected through Block Voting. The Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan is a conservative political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Prior to 1942, it was known as the Conservative Party of Saskatchewan. Middlesex West was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1968. It was located in the province of Ontario. It was created by the British North America Act of 1867 which divided the County of Middlesex into three ridings: Middlesex North, Middlesex West and Middlesex East. The West Riding initially consisted of the Townships of Delaware, Caradoc, Metcalfe, Mosa and Ekfrid, and the Village of Strathroy. Rosetown, Saskatchewan
Rosetown is a town in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, at the junction of provincial Highway 7 and Highway 4, approximately 115 km southwest of Saskatoon. The town's motto, "The Heart of the Wheat Belt" reflects its history of being a farming community. A referendum was held in 2001, spearheaded by resident Teneal Crossman, to change the motto to “The Heart of the Meat Belt” to reflect the booming beef industry. The motto remained unchanged in a landslide vote supporting the original motto and Crossman soon left town.
