James C. Hopkins, Jr. (architect)
Kilham & Hopkins was an architectural firm in Boston, Massachusetts formed in 1899 or 1900 by its founding members, Walter Harrington Kilham (August 30, 1868 – September 11, 1948) and James Cleveland Hopkins (December 25, 1873 – 1938). The firm later became Kilham, Hopkins & Greeley after William Roger Greeley (May 12, 1881 – October 1966) joined the firm in 1916, and Kilham Hopkins Greeley and Brodie after Walter S. (Steve) Brodie (October 26, 1911 – January 1985) joined the firm in 1945. The firm has been recognized for its contributions to early 20th century reform housing, including its work at the Atlantic Heights Development in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, at the Woodbourne Historic District in the Forest Hills section of the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, and for the Naumkeag Steam Cotton Company in the Salem Point Neighborhood of Salem, Massachusetts. Hopewell School (Taunton, Massachusetts)
The Hopewell School is a historic school building located on Monroe Street in Taunton, Massachusetts. It was built in 1914, and designed by the Boston firm of Kilham & Hopkins in the Renaissance Revival style. The school replaced a previous school of the same name located around the corner on Bay Street in the Whittenton section of the city. The school is a three-story brick building, with terra cotta and stone trim elements. It has projecting end bays, with its entrance in a central section that projects only slightly. The entrance is trimmed in terra cotta, while windows have limestone trim, with those on the second floor sporting keystone lintels. The building is capped by a limestone cornice, above which stands a brick parapet. Some of its windows have been filled in with brick. Haverhill ( ) is a city in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States. Haverhill is located 35 miles north of Boston on the New Hampshire border and about 17 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The population was 67,787 at the 2020 United States Census. Located on the Merrimack River, Haverhill began as a farming community of Puritans, largely from Newbury Plantation. The Franklin School is a historic former school building at 7 Stedman Rd. in Lexington, Massachusetts. Built in 1931, it is the only school built by the town in the period of the Great Depression. The Georgian Revival structure was designed by architects Kilham, Hopkins & Greeley. It served as a public school until 1985, when it was converted to the Franklin School Apartments. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. Description and history The former Franklin School is set on the east side of Stedman Road, a short road in a residential area of southern Lexington. The school stands at the front of a complex that includes five modern apartment buildings. It is a 2-1/2 story Georgian Revival structure, built out of load-bearing red brick, with a central section flanked on each side by matching 1-1/2 story wings. Edward Devotion School
The Florida Ruffin Ridley School, formerly known as the Coolidge Corner School and the Edward Devotion School or Devo, is a public K-8 school located at 345 Harvard Street, Brookline, Massachusetts, United States. It is a part of Public Schools of Brookline. The school was founded in 1892 on land formerly owned by Edward Devotion (1621-1685) and later by his grandson, another Edward Devotion (1667-1744). The land was purchased by the town from a later owner. The Devotions' 18th-century house is preserved by the Brookline Historical Society and stands amidst part of its original gardens in the school's forecourt.
