James B. Clark (Canadian Politician)
James B. Clark (October 14, 1867 – May 14, 1943) was an Ontario farmer and political figure. He represented Kent East from 1919 to January 1920 as a United Farmers of Ontario The United Farmers of Ontario (UFO) was an agrarian and populist provincial political party in Ontario, Canada. He was born in Harwich Township, Ontario, the son of William B. Clark. In 1889, he married Maria C. Scarlett. He was a member of the township council and served as reeve from 1909 to 1910. Clark also served as a member of the council for Kent County. He died in Chatham in 1943 and was buried at Evergreen Cemetery at Blenheim. A Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) is an elected member of the Legislative Assembly of the Canadian province of Ontario. Elsewhere in Canada, the titular designation "Member of Provincial Parliament" has also been used to refer to members of the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada from 1791 to 1838, and to members of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1955 to 1968. Manning Doherty
Manning William Doherty (September 27, 1875 - September 26, 1938) was a farmer, businessman and politician serving as Ontario's Minister of Agriculture during the United Farmers of Ontario-Labour government of 1919 to 1923 and as leader of the Progressives (as the UFO had become known) in Opposition before leaving provincial politics. Early life Doherty was the descendant of an old pioneer family that immigrated to Upper Canada from Ireland. His great-grandfather, Bernard Doherty, arrived in York (present-day Toronto) in 1812 and was offered a farm on the land now bordered by Queen Street West, Yonge Street, University Avenue, and College Street - then on the outskirts of town but today the heart of Downtown Toronto. He rejected the offer as too low and wet for agricultural purposes and instead accepted of the original homestead was inherited and farmed by Manning Doherty, Bernard Doherty's great-grandson.
