Prenk Jakova
Prenk Jakova (27 June 191719 September 1969) was an Albanian composer, musician, and author of '' Mrika'' (1958), which is considered the first Albanian opera. A native of Shkodër, he studied under Martin Gjoka and Zef Kurti, and he was also an alumnus of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. A virtuoso clarinetist he worked as a music teacher for most of his life and distinguished himself as the mentor of the four most important composers of classical music from northern Albania: Çesk Zadeja, Tish Daija, Tonin Harapi, and Simon Gjoni. Jakova was the director of the music band and of the House of Culture of Shkodër. Besides ''Mrika'', Jakova also composed ''Skënderbeu'', another opera which premiered in 1968. Along the operas Jakova left to posterity many songs and other musical pieces, several of which are commonly believed to be Albanian folk music, rather they are Jakova's compositions. Tuk Jakova
Tuk Jakova (20 February 1914 – 26 August 1959) was an Albanian politician in the People's Republic of Albania. He served as Chairman of the Constituent Assembly, Minister of Finance, Minister of Interior, and twice as Vice-Prime Minister. Political career In November 1941, Jacova attended the first and founding conference of the Party of Labor of Albania as a representative of the Shkodër group of Communists. Other members of the Shkodër group were Qemal Stafa and Liri Gega. From March 25, 1946 until later that year, Jakova served as Chairman of the Constituent Assembly. On 4 March 1947, Jakova arrived in Belgrade, Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to serve as minister to Yugoslavia. By 1 June 1948, Jakova was serving as Minister of Industry. Halim Jakova-Gostivari
Halim Jakova-Gostivari (1878–1927) was an Albanian politician, lawyer and public official who served as the first director of the Albanian State Police, a post which he held for three separate terms. Early life Jakova-Gostivari was born in 1878, in Gjakovë, Vilayet of Kosovo (then Ottoman Empire) to parents Jusuf and Minushe Jakova (Gostivari). He completed his primary education in his hometown, while in 1905 enrolled as a student at the American institution Robert College in Istanbul, where he graduated in law. Political activism In August 1908, Jakova-Gostivari supported Hasan bey Prishtina and the group that formed the "Bashkimi" club, based in Skopje. Tahir Efendi Gjakova
Tahir Efendi Jakova (1770–1850 or 1835), also known as Tahir Efendi Boshnjaku or The Great Efendi ( sq, Efendiu i Madh), was an Albanian religious leader of the Yakova region in Kosovo, as well one of the most known Albanian bejtexhi. He lived and served as a clergyman in Yakova. The best known work from him, ''Emni Vehbije'' (The Offering) was published with Arabic alphabet in Istanbul in 1835. A reprint of it with Latin alphabet was done in 1907 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Life Tahir Efendi is also referred as Tahir Efendi Boshnjaku (the Bosnian) because of his birthplace, the village of Lukare near Yeni Pazar, back then part of the Sanjak of Novi Pazar of the Bosnia Eyalet of the Ottoman Empire. Gaspër Jakova Mërturi
Gaspër Jakova Mërturi (1870-1941) was a figure involved in the Albanian National Awakening and a talented writer. Mërturi was from northern Albania who had been defrocked as Catholic priest and was an ex-Jesuit. Italy recruited individuals from the Albanian Catholic clergy to work for them and he became employed as an instructor at the Collegio of Sant'Adriano and later as a publicist editing works such as newspapers in Albanian. Mërturi along with Italo-Albanian Anselmo Lorecchio during June 1904 published an Italian language daily newspaper ''Agenzia Balcanica ed Italiana'' that focused on politics, finance and commercial information. Its aims were "to enlighten the European public opinion" about the rights and necessary reforms for the vilayets of Üsküb, Shkodër, Monastir, Yanina, and Salonica. The Bejtexhinj (in Albanian sing. ''bejtexhi'', pl. ''bejtexhinj''; from tr, beyte meaning "poem"), were popular bards of the Muslim tradition, literally meaning "couplet makers". It means the same in the Albanian literature, firstly muslim poets, that engaged in beit poetry. This genre of literature created in Albania in the 18th century that prevailed in different cities of what is now Albania, Kosovo, Chameria as well as in religious centers. The spread of Bejtexhinj was a product of two different significant factors. There was a demand in religious practices to write in Albanian and to free it from foreign influence. The other factor was the accretion of ideological pressure from Turkish rulers. The ruling Ottomans sought the submission of Albanians through the Muslim religion and culture.
