Jakob Jež
Jakob Jež (23 November 1928 – 8 March 2022) was a Slovenian composer. Life Jakob Jež was born on 23 November 1928 in Boštanj, a village in eastern Slovenia. In 1954, he graduated from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, Department of Music History. His dissertation, defended in 1959, focused on the early works of Slovenian composer Marij Kogoj. Kogoj remained a consistent influence for Jež throughout his career. Although he did not obtain a degree in composition, Jež studied composition with Marijan Lipovský and Karol Pahor. The Lexicon of Yugoslav Music describes his musical style as follows: "By adopting some modern compositional procedures, ežcreates a distinctive musical language, full of intimate expressiveness, with a developed sense of colour, lyricism and loose structures - a modern and contemporary language which is never incomprehensibly aggressive." Boštanj, Grosuplje
Boštanj (, sometimes ''Boštanjska vas'', german: Weißenstein) is a formerly independent settlement in the southern part of the village of Veliko Mlačevo in central Slovenia. It belongs to the Municipality of Grosuplje. It is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region. Geography Boštanj stands on a hill east of Saint Martin's Church in Veliko Mlačevo. Podlomščica Creek, which flows into the Račna Karst Field, runs past the base of the hill. History Prehistoric burial mounds and Roman graves have been discovered at Boštanj, attesting to early habitation of the area. The Boštanj state-run farm was established after the Second World War and sold milk to Ljubljana. A brick works south of the settlement was abandoned in 1962, and a sawmill near Boštanj stopped operating in 1965. Ljubljana
Ljubljana (also known by other historical names) is the capital and largest city of Slovenia. It is the country's cultural, educational, economic, political and administrative center. During antiquity, a Roman city called Emona stood in the area. Ljubljana itself was first mentioned in the first half of the 12th century. Marij Kogoj Marij Julij Kogoj (Trieste, 20 September 1892 – Ljubljana, 25 February 1956) was a Slovenian composer. He was a pupil of Schoenberg and Franz Schreker, and immensely popular during the 1920s, culminating with his opera ''Črne maske'' (Black masks). His career ended in 1932, when he was institutionalized for schizophrenia. He remained there until his death in 1956. The Prešeren Award ( sl, Prešernova nagrada), also called the Grand Prešeren Award ( sl, Velika Prešernova nagrada), is the highest decoration in the field of artistic and in the past also scientific creation in Slovenia. It is awarded each year by the Prešeren Fund () to two eminent Slovene artists, with the provision that their work was presented to the public at least two years ago. In general, it may be given to an artist only once, and can also be given to a group of artists.
