Jake Jacobson
Lowell S. "Jake" Jacobson (1940-2021) served 29 years with the Union Pacific Railroad, later President and Chief Operating Officer of the Copper Basin Railway of Hayden, Arizona. Mr. Jacobson was named ''Railway Ages Railroader of the Year in 1994, and a Great Railroader of the Century in December 1999. The American Shortline safety award is named after him: The Jake Award. The Union Pacific Railroad , legally Union Pacific Railroad Company and often called simply Union Pacific, is a freight-hauling railroad that operates 8,300 locomotives over routes in 23 U.S. states west of Chicago and New Orleans. Copper Basin Railway
The Copper Basin Railway is an Arizona short-line railroad that operates from a connection with the Union Pacific Railroad (UP) at Magma to Winkelman, in of length. The railroad also has a branch line that runs from Ray Junction to Ray, Arizona. There was formerly an interchange with the San Manuel Arizona Railroad (SMA) at Hayden. Hayden, Arizona
Hayden is a town in Gila and Pinal counties in Arizona, United States. According to the 2010 census, the population of the town was 662. History Hayden was founded in 1909 and owned by the Kennecott Copper Corp. In 1912, the company built a smelter named the "Hayden Smelter". It was the tallest smelter chimney in Arizona. The mine is now owned by the American Smelting and Refining Company. The town is now in the process of becoming a ghost town. One of the main reasons the people are abandoning the town is that the crime rate is much higher in Hayden than the Arizona average crime rate. It is also much higher than the national average crime rate in the rest of the United States. Pollution is another factor which has contributed to the abandonment of the town by its residents.
