Jacqui Marshall
Jacqui Marshall (born 13 March 1957) is an Australian former representative rower. She was a fourteen-time Australian national champion, represented at the 1981 World Championships and competed in the women's single sculls event at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Club and state rowing Marshall's senior club rowing was from the Melbourne University Boat Club. She first represented for the University club at the 1978 Intervarsity Championships. In later life when she began masters rowing she rowed in Bundaberg Rowing Club colours. At the 1981 Australian Rowing Championships in MUBC colours she won a national title in the women's elite coxed four and placed second with Westendorf in the elite pair. At the 1982 Championships she won Australian titles in all three senior women's sweep oared boat classes. She repeated this feat in 1983 when she stroked all three of those winning boats. Melbourne University Boat Club
Melbourne University Boat Club is a rowing club in Melbourne, Australia. Its clubhouse or "boat shed" is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register in 2000. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. There are several boat classes in which athletes may compete, ranging from single sculls, occupied by one person, to shells with eight rowers and a coxswain, called eights. There are a wide variety of course types and formats of racing, but most elite and championship level racing is conducted on calm water courses long with several lanes marked using buoys. The women's single sculls (W1x) rowing competition at the 1984 Summer Olympics took place at Lake Casitas in Ventura County, California, United States. It was held from 30 July to 4 August. Background Like some other rowing events at the 1984 Summer Olympics, the women's single sculls event was influenced by the absence of strong competitors due to the Soviet Bloc boycott. The last two world champions from the Soviet Union and East Germany were absent; Irina Fetisova of the Soviet Union had won the 1982 World Rowing Championships in Switzerland, and East German Jutta Behrendt had become world champion in 1983. The 1984 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XXIII Olympiad and also known as Los Angeles 1984) were an international multi-sport event held from July 28 to August 12, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, United States. It marked the second time that Los Angeles had hosted the Games, the first being in 1932. California was the home state of the incumbent U.S. President Ronald Reagan, who officially opened the Games. Pam Westendorf
Pamela Westendorf (born 28 September 1959) is an Australian former representative rower. She won twenty-three Australian national championships, was an Olympian, represented at five World Championships over a twelve-year period and won a silver medal at the 1990 World Rowing Championships. Club and state rowing Westendorf started her rowing career as a schoolgirl in Dimboola, Victoria. Her senior club rowing was from the Dimboola Rowing Club and later from the Melbourne University Boat Club. Westendorf first made Victorian state representation as a 15 year old in 1974 Colts series raced against New Zealand. In 1977 at the Australian Rowing Championships she won a women's junior four title in Dimboola colours with Leeanne Whitehouse with whom she would later share state and national honours.
