Jacques Plante Trophy
The Jacques Plante Trophy is awarded annually to the best ice hockey goaltender in Switzerland as voted on by a jury consisting of the captains and the coaches of the teams in the Nationalliga A. The Jacques Plante Trophy was donated in 1986 by legendary Canadian goaltender Jacques Plante's widow Caroline R. Plante, who resides in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. In ice hockey, two opposing teams use ice hockey sticks to control, advance and shoot a closed, vulcanized, rubber disc called a " puck" into the other team's goal. Each goal is worth one point. Genève-Servette HC
The Genève-Servette HC (also called Servette or GSHC) is a professional ice hockey club based in Geneva, Switzerland and competing in the National League (NL), the top tier of the Swiss hockey league system. The team plays their home games at the Patinoire des Vernets, which has a seating capacity of 7,135. The team is currently the oldest team in the NL, being founded in 1905. Renato Tosio
Renato Tosio (born 16 November 1964 in Wil, Switzerland) is a retired Swiss professional ice hockey goaltender. He is popular for his energetic style of play, for his sportsmanship and also for being a great entertainer and showman. Playing career Tosio began his professional career playing for EHC Chur, after playing in junior teams of the club since he was 8 years old. He stayed with Chur until the end of the 1986/87 season, twice winning the NLB championship and thus promoting to the NLA (in 1984 and 1986). He then played 14 years for SC Bern, the first game on 3 October 1987 against EHC Biel and the final one on 20 March 2001 against HC Lugano. HC Fribourg-Gottéron is a professional ice hockey team based in Fribourg, Switzerland, which competes in the National League (NL). The team is the sixth most attended team in Switzerland for the 2015/16 season with 6,156 spectators. History The club was originally started as HC Gottéron by the citizens of the town of Auge in 1938. They competed on an outdoor rink, most notably at ''Les Augustins'', until 1982 when Patinoire St-Léonard was constructed. In 1980, the name ''HC Fribourg-Gottéron'' was adopted upon promotion into the National League (NL). EHC Basel
EHC Basel known as Eishockey Club Basel are a professional Swiss ice hockey team. They are based out of the St. Jakob Arena in Basel, Switzerland. EHC Basel was founded on October 14, 1932. Were promoted to the Nationalliga A for 2005–06 after winning the Nationalliga B the previous season. They made the playoffs and were drawn against defending champions HC Davos in the first round, losing the series 4-1. Basel finished in last place in 2006–07, but managed to avoid relegation by beating SCL Tigers in the playouts. EHC Basel has won five championships of the Nationalliga B in 1935, 1941, 1956, 2003, and 2005. Daniel Manzato (born 17 January 1984) is a Swiss professional ice hockey goaltender who currently plays for SC Bern in the National League (NL). He was drafted 160th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes. Jonas Hiller
Jonas Hiller (born 12 February 1982) is a Swiss former professional ice hockey goaltender. Hiller played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Calgary Flames and the Anaheim Ducks, the latter with which he began his NHL career with in 2007 after going undrafted in any NHL Entry Draft. Hiller also played in the National League (NL) with HC Davos and EHC Biel. Playing career As a youth, Hiller played in the 1996 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a team from Zürich. While playing for HC Davos, Hiller won Switzerland's championship in 2002, 2005 and 2007, as well as the Spengler Cup in 2004 and 2006. In 2006–07, Hiller set a career-high win record with 28–16–0 in 44 games. Following the conclusion of the season, he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the NHL's Anaheim Ducks in May 2007. The Zürcher Schlittschuh Club Lions (ZSC Lions) are a professional ice hockey team located in Zürich, Switzerland, playing in the National League (NL). Their home arena is the 12,000-seat Swiss Life Arena. The team was founded in 1930 and played at the Dolder-Kunsteisbahn from its establishment until 1950.
