Jacob Elias La Fargue - View Of A Trekschuit And Windmill Along The Vliet
Jacob (; ; ar, يَعْقُوب, Jacob in Islam, Yaʿqūb; gr, Ἰακώβ, Iakṓb), later given the name Israel (name), Israel, is regarded as a Patriarchs (Bible), patriarch of the Israelites and is an important figure in Abrahamic religions, such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Jacob first appears in the Book of Genesis, where he is described as the son of Isaac and Rebecca, and the grandson of Abraham, Sarah, and Bethuel. According to the biblical account, he was the second-born of Isaac's children, the elder being Jacob's fraternal twin brother, Esau. Jacob is said to have bought Esau's Primogeniture, birthright and, with his mother's help, deceived his aging father to bless him instead of Esau. Later in the narrative, following a severe drought in his homeland of Canaan, Jacob and his descendants, with the help of his son Joseph (Genesis), Joseph (who had become a confidant of the pharaoh), moved to Biblical Egypt, Egypt where Jacob died at the age of 147. Maria Margaretha La Fargue
Maria Margaretha la Fargue (1738–1813), was an 18th-century painter from the Dutch Republic. La Fargue was born as the daughter of the notary and orangist pamphletist Jean Thomas la Fargue (c. 1700–1774) and Charlotte Constantia van Nieuwland (1703–1785). Her father was a fleeing Huguenot. She had four older brothers. She learned to draw and paint from her brothers Paulus Constantijn la Fargue (1729–1782) and Jacob Elias la Fargue (1735–1776?), who were probably autodidacts. Maria la Fargue is best known for her cityscapes, genre paintings and prints. Together with her brothers she worked in a family studio where they produced prints and illustrations for books. For example, she made prints for the ''Haagsche princelyke and koninglyke almanach'' of 1788. After the studio went bankrupt, La Fargue started giving drawing lessons. However, it became more and more difficult for her to make ends meet, until she became dependent on the dispensation of the Church. She died a ...

Confrerie Pictura
The Confrerie Pictura was a more or less academic club of artists founded in 1656 in The Hague (the Netherlands) by local art painters, who were unsatisfied by the Guild of Saint Luke there. History The guild of St. Luke in the Hague existed already in the 15th century and like most large Dutch cities, it catered not just to painters, but were united also with glaziers, engravers, sculptors, goldsmiths, printers and book sellers. In those days guilds were represented in churches with their own altars, and in the case of the painters' guild, they were sponsored by the church, and sometimes even ensured an income for church fathers through donations to the St. Luke's altar. After the Protestant Reformation, this all changed, and the churches were no longer a part of guild life. With the altarpieces gone that had traditionally been the public signboard for the artists, a new venue was necessary for sales. In addition, with the influx of talented painters from the Southern Netherlan ...

18th-century Dutch Painters
The 18th century lasted from January 1, 1701 ( MDCCI) to December 31, 1800 ( MDCCC). During the 18th century, elements of Enlightenment thinking culminated in the American, French, and Haitian Revolutions. During the century, slave trading and human trafficking expanded across the shores of the Atlantic, while declining in Russia, China, and Korea. Revolutions began to challenge the legitimacy of monarchical and aristocratic power structures, including the structures and beliefs that supported slavery. The Industrial Revolution began during mid-century, leading to radical changes in human society and the environment. Western historians have occasionally defined the 18th century otherwise for the purposes of their work. For example, the "short" 18th century may be defined as 1715–1789, denoting the period of time between the death of Louis XIV of France and the start of the French Revolution, with an emphasis on directly interconnected events. To historians who expan ...
