Jacob Biamonte
Jacob Daniel Biamonte (born January 22, 1979) is an American physicist and theoretical computer scientist active in the fields of quantum information theory and quantum computing. He is currently a professor at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology. Biamonte contributed several universality proofs which established the first experimentally relevant universal models of adiabatic quantum computation. He also proved universality of the NISQ era variational model of quantum computation and published several results in the development of quantum machine learning and the mathematics of tensor networks. Education Biamonte completed a Ph.D. at the University of Oxford in 2010. In 2022 he defended a thesis for Russia's Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. The Foundational Questions Institute, styled FQXi, is an organization that provides grants to "catalyze, support, and disseminate research on questions at the foundations of physics and cosmology." Tensor networks or tensor network states are a class of variational wave functions used in the study of many-body quantum systems. Tensor networks extend one-dimensional matrix product states to higher dimensions while preserving some of their useful mathematical properties. The wave function is encoded as a tensor contraction of a network of individual tensors. Quantum Machine Learning
Quantum machine learning is the integration of quantum algorithms within machine learning programs. The most common use of the term refers to machine learning algorithms for the analysis of classical data executed on a quantum computer, i.e. quantum-enhanced machine learning.
