''It's Showtime'' is a Philippine noontime variety show produced by ABS-CBN Entertainment that premiered on October 24, 2009, at the former ABS-CBN television network. The program formerly aired on ABS-CBN until May 5, 2020, when the network was forced to cease and desist its broadcasting operations as ordered by the National Telecommunications Commission after its legislative franchise expired on May 4, 2020. ''It's Showtime'' currently airs on pay television network Kapamilya Channel and is simulcast on A2Z and TV5 from 12:45 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays. Variety show, also known as variety arts or variety entertainment, is entertainment made up of a variety of acts including musical theatre, musical performances, sketch comedy, magic (illusion), magic, acrobatics, juggling, and ventriloquism. It is normally introduced by a Master of Ceremonies, compère (master of ceremonies) or Television presenter, host. The variety format made its way from the Victorian era stage in Britain and America to radio and then television. Variety shows were a staple of English language television from the late 1940s into the 1980s. Herminio Jose Lualhati "Ogie" Alcasid Jr. (; born August 27, 1967) is a Filipino singer-songwriter, television presenter, comedian, parodist, and actor. He is currently the President of OPM (Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-Aawit). Early career Ogie is a former batch member of the all-male singing group '' Kundirana'' batch 1984 after Gary Valenciano. His first album was released in 1989. His debut movie was ''Feel Na Feel'' released by Regal Entertainment in 1990. In 1991, Ogie made his VIVA films debut movie, ''Pitong Gamol''. Television career Alcasid's television career started as one of the hosts of comedy show ''Small Brothers'' on ABS-CBN in 1992. High-definition television (HD or HDTV) describes a television system which provides a substantially higher image resolution than the previous generation of technologies. 1080i
1080i (also known as Full HD or BT.709) is a combination of frame resolution and scan type. 1080i is used in high-definition television (HDTV) and high-definition video. The number "1080" refers to the number of horizontal lines on the screen. The "i" is an abbreviation for "interlaced"; this indicates that only the even lines, then the odd lines of each frame (each image called a video field) are drawn alternately, so that only half the number of actual image frames are used to produce video. A related display resolution is 1080p, which also has 1080 lines of resolution; the "p" refers to progressive scan, which indicates that the lines of resolution for each frame are "drawn" on the screen in sequence. SDTV
Standard-definition television (SDTV, SD, often shortened to standard definition) is a television system which uses a resolution that is not considered to be either high or enhanced definition. "Standard" refers to it being the prevailing specification for broadcast (and later, cable) television in the mid- to late-20th century, and compatible with legacy analog broadcast systems. The two common SDTV signal types are 576i, with 576 interlaced lines of resolution, derived from the European-developed PAL and SECAM systems, and 480i based on the American NTSC system. Common SDTV refresh rates are 25, 29.97 and 30 frames per second. Both systems use a 4:3 aspect ratio. Standards that support digital SDTV broadcast include DVB, ATSC, and ISDB.
