Jackie Mitchell (gridiron Football)
Jackie Mitchell (born July 30, 1976 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina) is a former American and Canadian football linebacker who played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League from 2000 to 2006. Mitchell was signed as a free agent by Saskatchewan in 2000 after being released from Edmonton Eskimos training camp. He was recognized as an All-Star in the 2003 CFL season. He attended the Miami Dolphins' (National Football League) training camp in 1999, signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2002 and released, and signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 2003 and released. In college, he played for Southern University. Mitchell was waived following the 2006 CFL season and granted a release he requested from Saskatchewan in January 2007, after not receiving a contract offer. In professional sports, a salary cap (or wage cap) is an agreement or rule that places a limit on the amount of money that a team can spend on players' salaries. It exists as a per-player limit or a total limit for the team's roster, or both. Several sports leagues have implemented salary caps, using them to keep overall costs down, and also to maintain a competitive balance by restricting richer clubs from entrenching dominance by signing many more top players than their rivals. The 2006 CFL season is considered to be the 53rd season in modern-day Canadian football, although it is officially the 49th Canadian Football League season. CFL News in 2006 It was announced on April 9, 2006 that the CFL had suspended the operations of the Ottawa Renegades for the 2006 season, thus making the CFL an eight team league and moving the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to the East Division for at least the 2006 season. On April 12, 2006 an Ottawa Dispersal Draft was held where the remaining eight teams chose players from the Ottawa Renegades' roster. On September 28, it was confirmed that Ottawa would return no sooner than the 2008 season, to give potential new owners enough time to set up the new franchise.
