Jackie Mitchell (born July 30, 1976 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina) is a former American and Canadian football linebacker who played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League from 2000 to 2006. Mitchell was signed as a free agent by Saskatchewan in 2000 after being released from Edmonton Eskimos training camp. He was recognized as an All-Star in the 2003 CFL season. He attended the Miami Dolphins' (National Football League) training camp in 1999, signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2002 and released, and signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 2003 and released. In college, he played for Southern University. It was largely seen as a cost-saving move to meet the new CFL salary cap In professional sports, a salary cap (or wage cap) is an agreement or rule that places a limit on the amount of mon ...

Canadian Football Linebackers
Canadians (french: Canadiens) are people identified with the country of Canada. This connection may be residential, legal, historical or cultural. For most Canadians, many (or all) of these connections exist and are collectively the source of their being ''Canadian''. Canada is a multilingual and multicultural society home to people of groups of many different ethnic, religious, and national origins, with the majority of the population made up of Old World immigrants and their descendants. Following the initial period of French and then the much larger British colonization, different waves (or peaks) of immigration and settlement of non-indigenous peoples took place over the course of nearly two centuries and continue today. Elements of Indigenous, French, British, and more recent immigrant customs, languages, and religions have combined to form the culture of Canada, and thus a Canadian identity. Salary Cap
In professional sports, a salary cap (or wage cap) is an agreement or rule that places a limit on the amount of money that a team can spend on players' salaries. It exists as a per-player limit or a total limit for the team's roster, or both. Several sports leagues have implemented salary caps, using them to keep overall costs down, and also to maintain a competitive balance by restricting richer clubs from entrenching dominance by signing many more top players than their rivals. Salary caps can be a major issue in negotiations between league management and players' unions because they limit players' and teams' ability to negotiate higher salaries even if a team is operating at significant profits, and have been the focal point of several strikes by players and lockouts by owners and administrators. Adoption Salary caps are used by the following major sports leagues around the world: * North America ** The National Basketball Association, National Football League, National Hock ...

CFL News in 2006 It was announced on April 9, 2006 that the CFL had suspended the operations of the Ottawa Renegades for the 2006 season, thus making the CFL an eight team league and moving the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to the East Division for at least the 2006 season. On April 12, 2006 an Ottawa Dispersal Draft was held where the remaining eight teams chose players from the Ottawa Renegades' roster. On September 28, it was confirmed that Ottawa would return no sooner than the 2008 season, to give potential new owners enough time to set up the new franchise. Ultimately, the Renegades never returned. They would not be replaced until the formation of the Ottawa Redblacks, who began play for the 2014 CFL season. The 2006 season is the first season where teams will be able to challenge officials' calls using instant replay. Th ...
