Jackie Jarrell
Jackie Jarrell (born May 16, 1985) is a former women's ice hockey player and current member of the Canada women's national inline hockey team, having debuted in 2006. Playing career Ice hockey Having played minor hockey with a pair of boys teams, the Belleville Bobcats (AA level) and the Quinte Red Devils (AAA level), she would join the Durham Lightning of the original NWHL at 16 years young. In addition, Jarrell would win a gold medal at the 2003 Canada Winter Games, playing for Team Ontario. Jarrell joined the Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey program in the autumn of 2003. Amassing 19 points in her freshman campaign (2003–04), she would miss the 2005–06 season due to concussion. Named an alternate captain for the 2006-07 campaign, she would graduate in 2008, having appeared in 99 games for the Lakers, winning four conference championships. Corbyville, Ontario
Corbyville is a community located within the City of Belleville, Ontario. Its origins begin when Henry Corby immigrated to Canada. Corby had been a baker in England and when he arrived in Belleville in 1832, set up a small food shop. After serving in the Rebellion of 1837 he bought a Saint Lawrence steamer named the ''Queen'' which he operated for four years. It was customary for farmers to set aside a portion of their inferior grain to be made into whisky, and as Corby was already making whisky for the locals, he became interested in the distilling process. In 1857, Corby built a dam and established a grist-mill on the bank of the Moira River. In 1859 he built a distillery which became more important than the mill. Hanna Bunton
Hanna Bunton (born May 7, 1995) is a Canadian ice hockey forward, currently playing with the Calgary section of the PWHPA. She scored the first goal in Vanke Rays history, while they were competing in the CWHL. Along with Brigette Lacquette and Sarah Nurse, Bunton joined them on the cover (dated June 2021) of Elle Canada. Career As a youth player, Bunton played for the Whitby Wolves in the Provincial Women's Hockey League. She finished second overall in rookie scoring in 2011–12, and would finish her junior career with 87 points in 64 PWHL games. After graduating from high school, she moved to the United States to study and play at Cornell University. Across 125 NCAA games with the university, she would score 87 points. She was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2014 and Ivy League Player of the Year in 2017. She was drafted 28th overall in the 2017 CWHL Draft by the Vanke Rays. 2007–08 Mercyhurst Lakers Women's Ice Hockey Season
The 2007–08 Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey team represented Mercyhurst College in the 2007–08 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season. The Lakers were coached by Michael Sisti and had a 9-2-1 conference record. Assisting Sisti was Paul Colontino and Louis Goulet. Mike Folga was the Head Equipment Manager. Mercyhurst featured eight newcomers in 2007-2008 as the Lakers lost 10 players from the 2006–2007, 32-win team. Seven of those players were lost to graduation. 2006–07 Mercyhurst Lakers Women's Ice Hockey Season
The 2006–07 Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey team represented Mercyhurst College in the 2006–07 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season. The Lakers were coached by Michael Sisti and went 11-0-1 in their conference. Mercyhurst had the second-best scoring defense in Division I in 2006-2007. It would be the rookie season of Meghan Agosta. She was the first freshman ever to be in the Final 3 for the Patty Kazmaier Award. No other freshman had made it that far in voting. Regular season The Lakers made local, regional and national headlines (features in the USA Today and New York Times). In late November, the Lakers were ranked #1 and stayed there for 11 consecutive weeks. College Hockey America
College Hockey America (CHA) is a college ice hockey conference in the United States. It participates in the NCAA's Division I as a hockey-only conference. The conference is made up of five women’s teams, with two in Pennsylvania; two in New York, and one in Missouri. A former member in Pennsylvania will return in 2023. History The CHA was founded as a men's-only league in the 1999–2000 season. The conference was formed by seven teams, three of which were Division I independent teams, another three moving up from Division II, after the NCAA stopped sanctioning Division II hockey in 1998, and one new varsity program (Wayne State). Penalty (ice Hockey)
A penalty in ice hockey is a punishment for an infringement of the rules. Most penalties are enforced by sending the offending player to a penalty box for a set number of minutes. During the penalty the player may not participate in play. Penalties are called and enforced by the referee, or in some cases, the linesman. The offending team may not replace the player on the ice (although there are some exceptions, such as fighting), leaving them short-handed as opposed to full strength. When the opposing team is said to be on a ''power play'', they will have one more player on the ice than the short-handed team. The short-handed team is said to be "on the penalty kill" until the penalty expires and the penalized player returns to play. While standards vary somewhat between leagues, most leagues recognize several common varieties of penalties, as well as common infractions. Point (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, point has three contemporary meanings. Personal stat A point is awarded to a player for each goal scored or assist earned. The total number of goals plus assists equals total points. The Art Ross Trophy is awarded to the National Hockey League (NHL) player who leads the league in scoring points at the end of the regular season. Team stat Points are also awarded to assess standings (or rankings). Historically, teams were awarded two points for each win, one point for each tie and no points for a loss. Assist (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, an assist is attributed to up to two players of the scoring team who shot, passed or deflected the puck towards the scoring teammate, or touched it in any other way which enabled the goal, meaning that they were "assisting" in the goal. There can be a maximum of two assists per goal. The assists will be awarded in the order of play, with the last player to pass the puck to the goal scorer getting the primary assist and the player who passed it to the primary assister getting the secondary assist. Players who gain an assist will get one point added to their player statistics. Despite the use of the terms "primary assist" and "secondary assist", neither is worth more than the other, and neither is worth more or less than a goal.
