Jackie Carney
John Carney (1906 - November 1984) was an Irish Gaelic footballer and trainer. His National Football League (Ireland), league and All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, championship career at senior level with the Mayo county football team, Mayo county team spanned ten years from 1931 to 1941. Carney made his debut on the inter-county scene when he was selected for the Mayo senior team during the 1930–31 National Football League (Ireland), 1930–31 league. After being dropped from the team the following year he was recalled in 1933 after winning an All-Ireland Junior Football Championship, All-Ireland medal with the Mayo junior team. Over the course of the next eight seasons, Carney won one All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, All-Ireland medals as left wing-forward on the team in 1936. Ballina Stephenites is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Ballina, County Mayo, Ballina area in County Mayo, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. They are the most successful club in Mayo and fourth most successful in Ireland based on trophy amount. History The Ballina Stephenites Club was founded on the 28th (last Saturday) of August 1886 by James Wallace Melvin. (Pen-name Larry Doolan) who also penned the Club's rallying song-"Forward to the goal of victory" The first meeting was held in "Barney's Boreen" at the top of Convent Hill. The first President of the Club was Tom Courell with "Cappy" Fitzgerald as Secretary and Michael Connolly as Treasurer. The club is named for James Stephens (Fenian), James Stephens (1825–1901). Ballina Stephenites were affiliated to the Mayo County Board a short time later and played their first "official" fixture in Jones' Field in Ardnaree against Commercials Junior.
