Jacka is a suburb of Gungahlin, Canberra, the National Capital of Australia. The suburb was gazetted on 25 April 2001 and development began in 2013. It had some residents at the beginning of 2014. The suburb is named after Albert Jacka, the first Australian to be decorated with the Victoria Cross during the First World War, receiving the medal for his actions during the Gallipoli Campaign. Jacka is located in north Gungahlin adjacent to the suburbs of Amaroo, Taylor, Bonner and Moncrieff. The suburb is located approximately 4 km from the Gungahlin Town Centre and 16 km from the centre of Canberra. The Jacka
Dominick Newton (August 12, 1977 – February 2, 2015), better known by his stage name The Jacka, was an American rapper from Pittsburg, California. The Jacka began his career as part of the rap group Mob Figaz. He was killed in a shooting in Oakland, California, on February 2, 2015. The murder is currently unsolved. Early life Newton was born to 14-year-old parents and became the family breadwinner as a teenager, a role that landed him in prison for a year at age 18. Newton converted to Islam at a young age and changed his name to ''Shaheed Akbar''. Career His career began with the Bay Area rap group Mob Figaz after the teenaged Newton and several friends were approached by established rap artist C-Bo in a record store and went to a recording studio that day. Albert Jacka
Albert Jacka, (10 January 1893 – 17 January 1932) was an Australian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest decoration for gallantry "in the face of the enemy" that can be awarded to members of the British and Commonwealth armed forces. Jacka was the first Australian to be decorated with the VC during the First World War, receiving the medal for his actions during the Gallipoli Campaign. He later served on the Western Front and was twice more decorated for his bravery. After the war, Jacka returned to Australia and entered business, establishing the electrical goods importing and exporting business ''Roxburgh, Jacka & Co. Pty Ltd''. He was later elected to the local council, becoming mayor of the City of St Kilda. Jacka never fully recovered from the wounds he sustained during his war service, and died aged 39. Beryl Elaine Jacka (9 June 1913 – 27 December 1989) was a private secretary for the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AUSIMM) (1948–1976), the inaugural secretary of the Australian Minerals Industry Research Association (AMIRA) (1959–1975) and executive officer at Australian Academy of Technological Sciences (ATSE) (1976–1989). The Beryl Jacka Award was founded in her honour. Beryl Jacka joined the AusIMM as a typist in 1936 and became acting secretary in 1945. She was officially appointed secretary in 1948 and over the next 28 years she played a vital role in the Institute's growth from 1200 members in 14 branches to 6500 in 35 branches. David Brian Jacka OAM (born 14 July 1968) is an aviator and disability advocate. On 5 June 2013, Jacka became the first person with quadriplegia to fly solo around the coast of Australia. Jacka Glacier
Jacka Glacier () is a long glacier which flows northeast from Hayter Peak and terminates in icefalls opposite Vanhoffen Bluff on the north side of Heard Island in the southern Indian Ocean. The glacier appears to be roughly charted on an 1860 sketch map compiled by Captain H.C. Chester, an American sealer operating in the area during this period.
