Jack Smethurst
John Smethurst (9 April 1932 – 16 February 2022) was an English television and film comic actor. He was best known for his role as Eddie Booth in the British television sitcom '' Love Thy Neighbour''. Early life Smethurst was born on 9 April 1932 in Collyhurst, Manchester. Career He made his film debut in 1958's ''Carry On Sergeant''. This was followed by parts in the films ''Saturday Night and Sunday Morning'' (1960), '' A Kind of Loving'' (1962), ''Run with the Wind'' (1966), ''Night After Night After Night'' (1970), the big-screen version of ''Please Sir!'' (1971) and the ITV sitcom ''For the Love of Ada'' (1970–71) amongst others, before he landed the role for which he is best known—that of bigoted socialist and union leader, 'brother' Eddie Booth in '' Love Thy Neighbour''. Collyhurst is an inner city area of Manchester, England, northeast of the Manchester city centre, city centre on Rochdale Road (A664) and A62 road, Oldham Road (A62), bounded by Smedley, Manchester, Smedley, Harpurhey and Monsall tram stop, Monsall to the north, Miles Platting to the east, Ancoats to the south, and the River Irk to the west. Love Thy Neighbour In Australia
''Love Thy Neighbour'' is a seven-episode Australian television sitcom which debuted on ATN-7 in Sydney on 9 April 1980. Most of the episodes were broadcast in Melbourne beginning the following month. It was produced as a sequel to the British series '' Love Thy Neighbour'' (1972–1976) featuring one of the major protagonists Eddie Booth (Jack Smethurst).Maxford p.511 The central concept is that Eddie has relocated to Australia and intends to send for his wife and child once he has settled. Madge Hindle
Madge Hindle (born Madge Railton; 19 May 1938) is an English actress, known for her roles in British television shows. Career Hindle was born in Blackburn, Lancashire. Her break came when her friend, playwright Alan Bennett, asked her to appear in his 1966 BBC comedy series ''On the Margin''. From 1968 to 1973, she played the role of Lily Tattersall on the series '' Nearest and Dearest''. When the series' director, Bill Podmore, took over as producer of '' Coronation Street'', he thought of her when he created the role of the feisty shopkeeper, Renee Bradshaw. Hindle joined the cast as Renee Bradshaw in 1976. In 1978, Renee was married to the character Alf Roberts (Bryan Mosley). However, in 1980, Renee was killed when her car was struck by a lorry. Hindle remains philosophical about her character's death in ''Coronation Street'', saying that if they had to write her out, at least they killed her. Vincent Joseph Powell (6 August 1928 – 13 July 2009) was a British television scriptwriter. He collaborated with a writing partner, Harry Driver, until 1973. Early life Powell was born as Vincent Joseph Smith to Roman Catholic parents in Miles Platting, Manchester. When he was five, his mother died; two years later, his father remarried. Powell began a career as a tailor following the lead of his father, while performing as a comedian in the evenings. He met Harry Driver on the local club circuit. Their performing partnership under the name Hammond and Powell lasted until 1955 when Driver's health and physical mobility became severely impaired by the onset of polio. Jack Duckworth
John "Jack" Duckworth is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'', played by Bill Tarmey. The character debuted on-screen during the episode broadcast on 28 November 1979. Jack was introduced by executive producer Bill Podmore. Edward Jeremy Timothy "Eddie" Yeats is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'', played by Geoffrey Hughes. He made his first screen appearance on 23 December 1974 and remained a regular until 1983, when Hughes opted to quit. ''La Passione'' is a British 1996 drama film written and produced by Chris Rea, directed by John B. Hobbs, and starring Sean Gallagher, Paul Shane and Shirley Bassey.
