Jack Kelly (English Footballer)
John Kelly (2 March 1913 – 2000) was an English professional footballer who scored 32 goals from 109 appearances in the Football League playing for Burnley, Newcastle United, Leeds United, Birmingham and Bury. Career Kelly was born in Hetton-le-Hole, County Durham. He played for his local junior side before joining Burnley, initially as an amateur, in October 1930. He made his debut in the Football League for Burnley, and joined Newcastle United as part of a player exchange deal in April 1933. He rarely appeared for Newcastle's first team, and moved on to Leeds United in February 1935 for a fee of £1,150. He was first choice at centre forward in the 1935–36 season, scoring 15 goals in 34 games in the First Division, but lost out the following season to Arthur Hydes. The 1935–36 season was the 61st season of competitive football (soccer), football in England. Sunderland A.F.C., Sunderland won the league, and in doing so they remain the last team to win the English League while wearing striped jerseys. Central League (England)
The Central League is a football league for reserve teams, primarily from the English Football League. For sponsorship purposes, it was branded as the Final Third Development League until the 2015/16 season. The league was formed in 1911 and in its early years consisted of a mix of first teams and reserve teams. However, when the Football League Third Division North was created in 1921, all the first teams in the Central League became founder members. Since then, the league has been for reserve teams only, and eventually expanded to include virtually every professional team in the South, Midlands and North of England. Southern teams used to play in the Football Combination. In recent years, the Premier Reserve League was created for reserve sides of Premier League teams, and so the Central League's membership has been reduced. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981.
