Jack Harding (hurler)
John Harding (23 June 1933 – 2 July 2020) was an Irish hurler. At club level he played with the Shelmaliers club and was an All-Ireland Championship winner with the Wexford senior hurling team in 1960. Playing career Born in Curracloe, Harding first played hurling with his local Shelmaliers club, winning a county junior championship medal in 1954. After lining out at midfield for the Wexford junior team, he was drafted onto the senior team as full-forward for the 1960 Leinster Championship. Harding claimed a Leinster Championship medal that season before later winning an All-Ireland Championship medal after Wexford's shock win over Tipperary in the final. After a short-lived inter-county career, Harding continued to line out with Shelmaliers, with whom he won a second junior county championship title in 1966. Death Harding died at his home in Curracloe on 2 July 2020. His wife predeceased him in 2005 and he was survived by his eight children. Honours ;Shelmalier ... Shelmaliers GAA
Shelmaliers is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Castlebridge, County Wexford, Ireland. The club was founded in 1886, with the name Shelmaliers being adopted in 1952, and fields teams in hurling, Gaelic football and camogie. Location Shelmaliers represents a parish of three centres – historic Castlebridge, Screen at the northern end, and the seaside area of Curracloe. The club is in the "over the water" area, just north of the town of Wexford. History Evidence suggests that the game of hurling had been played in the area long before the foundation of the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1884. Two years later in 1886 the club played its first game under the auspices of the association – a game of football against Our Lady's Island in October 1886. Over the next fifty years the club, under various names such as the Emmets, the Redmonds, and the Sally Beachers, enjoyed a golden age, winning thirteen senior hurling titles and one senior football title. Leinster Senior Hurling Championship
The Leinster GAA Hurling Senior Championship, known simply as the Leinster Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in the province of Leinster, and has been contested every year since the 1888 championship. The final, usually held on the first Sunday in July, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during May and June, and the results determine which team receives the Bob O'Keeffe Cup. The championship was previously played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team lost they were eliminated from the championship; however, as of 2018, the championship involved a round-robin system. The Tipperary County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae Thiobraid Árann) or Tipperary GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Tipperary and the Tipperary county teams. Wexford Junior Hurling Championship
The Wexford Junior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Permanent TSB Junior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition contested by lower-tier Wexford GAA clubs. The Wexford County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1903. The all-time record-holders are Ferns St Aidan's, who have won the competition five times. Horeswood are the title holders (2021) defeating Kilmore in the Final. History The Wexford Junior Hurling Championship dates back to 1903. It was the second championship to be established in Wexford following the Wexford Senior Hurling Championship in 1889. No competition was held in 1906 or in 1915. Wexford Senior Hurling Team
The Wexford county hurling team represents Wexford in hurling and is governed by Wexford GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship and the National Hurling League.
