John MacDonald Coleman (born February 21, 1958) is an American actor who has played the role of Steven Carrington in the 1980s prime time soap opera ''Dynasty'' (1982–1988), Noah Bennet in the science-fiction drama series ''Heroes'' (2006–2010), State Senator Robert Lipton on ''The Office'' (2010–2013), and United States Senator William Bracken on ''Castle'' (2012–2015). Early life and education Coleman was born February 21, 1958 in Easton, Pennsylvania in the Lehigh Valley region of eastern Pennsylvania. He is a sixth-generation descendant of Benjamin Franklin. He attended Solebury School in Solesbury Township, Pennsylvania and Duke University, where he decided to pursue acting as a career. After graduating from Duke in 1980, he attended Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford, Connecticut. Jack Lillard Coleman (May 23, 1924 – December 11, 1998) was an American professional basketball player. After playing college basketball for Louisville, Coleman played in the National Basketball Association for the Rochester Royals and St. Louis Hawks from 1949 through 1957. Career A forward and center from the University of Louisville, Coleman played nine seasons ( 1949– 1958) in the National Basketball Association as a member of the Rochester Royals and St. Louis Hawks. He tallied 6,721 points and 5,186 rebounds in his career, and he represented Rochester in the 1955 NBA All-Star Game. Coleman also appeared in three NBA Finals, winning championships with Rochester in 1951 and St. Louis in 1958. During the Hawks' losing effort in the 1957 NBA Finals, Coleman became the unwitting victim of one of Bill Russell's greatest defensive plays. Jack Lillard Coleman Jr. (born October 1, 1953) is an American politician in the state of Kentucky. He served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1991 to 2004. Coleman also was a city commissioner of Harrodsburg, Kentucky from 2016 to 2018. Coleman also served on the Burgin Independent School Board and served as vice-chair of the school board. Coleman's father, Jack Sr., played in the National Basketball Association.
